How to Deal with Curly Hair - It's New to Me!

After 32 years of stick straight hair, this last baby gave me waves. I love it! My question is how do I do it in the morning without rewashing it? I'd like to be able to run to the store quickly in the morning, but with the curly bedhead it's just not working without washing it. Any tips? I thought of maybe a spray bottle to brush a little and rewet, but it's really just waves so I don't think that would be wet enough to get the curls back after a brush. TIA!

Personally, I use leave in conditioner to make the wave a little more manageable in the morning, plus it softens the hair and makes it less frizzy and shiny.

A quick straightening iron also does the trick when I'm in a rush and don't have time to wash my hair.

Good luck and enjoy the wave!

I have very curly hair so after I wash I rinse with cool/cold water and the put my product in while my hair is still wet. I will then either put it up in a microfiber towel or an old tshirt. (http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/t...)

Get a good haircut/style so that whether it's brushed and styled or not, it looks good. Styling products can help if you're just dealing with waves and not true curls. Curls need conditioner always to look good and give them weight and hold. If you have waves, seems to me, finger tossing should be sufficient and as I said a good cut will do the bulk of the work.

My daughter and I both have naturally curly hair and we just spray water in it and brush it out. But we both use a good conditioner and a light leave in spray as well which helps.

The great thing about curls is you never have to worry about a hair being out of place. They all are so the maintenance is really low! As for going to the store with your curls, er, waves? Just wing it. Nobody is really looking and there are more people in stores "real quick" with pajamas than curly bed-head.

I'm a hairstylist. Don't brush your hair. You can use a dry shampoo on your scalp for volume. Spritz your hair with a little water of detangling/conditioning spray, then twirl the curls into their sections around your finger and let it dry that way.

Well my older daughter is in college and she just rocks the bed head. Usually by noon it calms down. I have to shower every morning, I can't stand the fro look.

I use beyond the zone noodle head curling cream. My hair at the nape of my neck is poodle curly. As you move up it goes into spiral curls but all over there are wavy sections. That stuff works great to even out the curl so the wavy curls more, the poodle curls less and I don't look like I got a bad perm.

Oh, that can be purchased at Sally's Beauty. :)

My hair is pretty long and really fine and straight, I have to get a perm just to get hair bands or clips to stay put when I wear them, so I've had a perm for the last 25 years. Two things I've learned over the years is to put away the brush and use a wide pick only and the spray bottle is your friend. I wash mine every day during the week but on the weekend, I get lazy! :) I grab the spray bottle, wet it pretty good, run my pick through it, lean over so the top of my head is towards the ground, shake a few times and I'm good. If I get it too wet, I'll wrap a towel around just the ends for a sec to soak up the extra water. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes tops. When my daughter (16yr/old) watched me one morning, she said maybe she needs to get a perm so her hair routine is easier! :)
I'm a huge believer in the hair oils after my perms, the moroccan, argan, macadamia nut, and pequi. I add it liberally to the bottom part of my hair, sparingly to the roots. It helps heep my hair soft without limping it down. I live in the desert, so the moisture is sucked out as soon as I get out of the shower...

lol...welcome to my world. I put it up in a bun or a ponytail if I really want to just run out the door first thing in the morning. I'm going to follow the answers tho' - Some mornings I just rinse my hair really fast if I'm in a super rush (as in, bend over the tub and use a cup for a minute)...but my hair has always been difficult to do if it's not wet :/.

Depending on your hair and the type of curls, you may be able to wash at night and let it air dry and just do a touch up with some sort of product. My baby gave me wavy hair, too, and I usually wash in the morning. I also sometimes don't condition it for a different effect. You may want to talk to your hairdresser and describe what you want out of your hair routine and find out if a different cut will help. I don't know what mine did this last time (I know layers were involved) but it really helped. If I need to tame my DD's curls, I'll get it damp and use a brush with long plastic bristles vs the kind with the little compact bristles together.

I have wavy, curly, thick hair. I either wash it or its in a ponytail. I love it when its freshly washed but in the morning I yearn for straight hair!! Or time to shower....

Same thing just happened to me this last year and I'm 56. My hair went wavy and there are sections of ringlets. Way fun, I'm loving it, too. At first I tried to flatiron it back straight. Now I go with the flow. Here's what I'm doing to make the waves and curls look more intentional:

Wash at night, apply serum and brush through, then dry.
Dampen hair in the morning, add a little mousse and scrunch hair from the bottom up to form curls.
Let dry and leave as is, or if it's too wild, I'll brush it gently, then spritz a little water on the top layer of hair and re-scrunch a little to shape and control.

Mousse our gel should help, or get a big clip and put it in a bun with the clip around it.
