How to Find Babysitters?

Hello... my husband and I (in probably a few months) would like to start trying to find a babysitter. How did you all find your babysitter? Did any of you try sitter city?

There seems to be a lot of moms in my neighborhood (although people seem to keep to themselves), I was almost thinking of sending out a notice to find out if anyone wants to start one of those babysitting clubs. Has anyone started one of those? If so, please fill me in.

What can I do next?

I also heard of sitter city, but some of the sitters turned down offers at the last second. I agree there always seem to be so many moms in my area, but they keep to themselves. Wherever I go. Even at my daughter's Gymboree class they just are not willing to mix much.To this day I still haven't found a mom's club in my area.
I also have used www.helpersabove.com for finding babysitters and nannies. My friends and I have used them and they are really good.
I found my babysitter through word of mouth but heard these two places, including Craig's List, are good places to start. Also try posting ads at the local college campus. Good luck and start early!

I have a pretty easy time finding sitters since I teach. I recommend you call the local high school...they may have a list of students willing to work in a babysitting capacity. Otherwise, word of mouth is the best way. Depending on where you live, I may be able to give you some reliable names. Send me a message and let me know if you are interested.
Also, I see from your message that you have twins. I know there are many support groups for moms of twins and they may be a good resource as well.
Good luck!

We used Sitter City and I love it. We've been able to find a sitter at the last minute and you can run a background check on the sitter, which was very important to us. Depending on where you live, I'd love to get involved in a babysitters club type deal. I'm in River West.
