How to Keep a Phone Number and Get Rid of a Land Line

I have a home phone and a business phone and 2 cell phones in our
household of 2empty nesters. We desire to unload some monthly
ongoing expenses. We are hesitant to cancel the business phone
entirely so we are trying to find a way to keep our "business phone
'NUMBER' " without paying $80 a month for a commercial
landline. My husband only uses his cell phone in emergencies only
(maybe 10 minutes a month). I would like to keep our business phone
NUMBER and transfer it to husband's cell phone. So that when his
phone rings, it is most likely business related.
Again, we only want to keep the NUMBER and not the extra land line
in the home.Tempting to get rid of the business phone completely.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

when I got my daughter a trac phone - you are able to request numbers for that... I think. This way you would only "pay as you go" if you needed to use the #, but there aren't the on-going fees. I would try that.

Or - you can add a 3rd - throwaway phone to your already existing plan. THEY will be able to help you with securing an already in use number.

Switch to Ooma .... I believe you can have two numbers and we ported our number to the Ooma for a small fee. Initial cost is like $150 for the unit. You will need Internet, as it's voice over IP, but we switched and it's been great! Our monthly fee is less than $2, I think. Highly recommended by Consumer Reports, too.

I have US Cellular as my cell provider. I recently found out you can get a device from them that works off cell towers but is for a landline phone. I'm not sure how it works, they can explain it to you. The cool thing is you can keep your number and if you travel take it with you. As long as you have cell service it works.

If your husband "rarely" uses his cell number, why don't you just have the business number transferred to his cell number and delete his cell number? That would be the cheapest. Or, you can have the business number forwarded to his cell. It's like a "ghost" line, I can't remember exactly what it's called. We did this with our business numbers until our clients all had our cell numbers instead, and it only cost $17 per month per number. Good luck.

You probably need to check with providers in your area. I know my mom was able to do this but it was in Ohio and there can be different regulations by state. She transferred a land line number to a cell phone. If you get rid of both land lines, make sure you reevaluate your cell plan based on your new needs. Anytime you set something up as a "business" account it will be more expensive.
