Can anyone tell me how to start a home based business in Arizona? I know that there are steps to follow like getting a state tax ID # and I know there is something about registering my business name with the city so that they can collect the city taxes on my business. I need to know if I need to get a Ficticious Name Certificate before beginning this process and if banks require this certificate before opening a commercial account. If so, where do I get this Ficticious Name Certificate?

Any help ir advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, any advice on what to sell from my home would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks to all in advance!

Call the Small Business Administration in your area. Also call the city in which you live. When I started my business 17 years ago I frequently talked to these helpful organizations. Another is SCORE-Service core of retired engineers. Many will help you walk thru the process of a Business Plan. Yes--A business plan is necessary and must be followed for continued success. Good luck. It is a long process yet when you are done-you'll know all the required documents and proceedures and marketing tips.

I'm not sure about Certificates and things but when I sold Avon, I just opened up a regular checking account. I used that same account when I sold on eBay and for my Melaleuca business. If you like selling things, Avon or eBay are great places to start. If you like network marketing, Melaleuca has got to be the best. It isn't an MLM and they have great, safe, green, reasonably priced products that everyone uses in their homes every day. I'd stay away from MLM's. I've heard that you can lose a lot and it can be risky. There is no risk with Melaleuca and Avon is a great company too if you don't mind delivering orders to people. I'm not doing Avon anymore but I'm doing Melaleuca if you'd like more information. Good luck to you!

Hi J.,

My husband and I have a home based business and all we need to do is pay for the business license at the City Rev and Tax of course you can pay the monthly taxes or yearly whichever you prefer (City of Phoenix, License Services Section, 251 W. Washington Street, 3rd Floor; Phoenix, AZ 85003 ###-###-#### ) and at the State Department of Revenue, http://www.azdor.gov/ Phoenix Office(1600 W. Monroe
Phoenix, Arizona 85007 for Phoenix) and this is forever along with Ficticious Name (until you close it or until you change it), the Certificate or application you can find on the Secretary of State website
( http://www.azsos.gov/business_services/ ).

Hope that you find what you are looking for on the above information and let me know if you need more information.
