How do you start the sippy cups. My daughter is 7 months old and I give to her with juice and refuses to drink any. Its almost like it comes out to fast and then she spits it out. Should I do her milk instead and is there a better time of day to put the milk into the sippy? Please Help!

What can I do next?

You can start sippy cups as early as six months old. The sooner you start her on the sippy, the easier it will be for her to give up the bottle. I'd get her a playtex sippy cup and give her breast milk/formula rather than a bottle. My son started on sippy cups at 8 mos; definitely, start before the first year.

Put about 2 ounces of fluid in the cup make sure the insert is fitted correctly. You can offer her milk in a sippy with breakfast lunch or dinner or take it wioth you when you leave offer it then but try to have a back up bottle just in case,it takes practice they will refuse till they get adjusted to the size the texture of the spout the flow of the cups they are all different. My second child bought cup after cup she really had a hard time with it then I let go after a few weeks came back to it then she took it better.

Does she drink from your cups? We let our daughter take sips from a regular cup at about this age.. It gave her an idea of not having to suck.. But we also let her also try straws at different times.

We did not give her sippy cup until our daughters 1st birthday.. For 2 weeks I spoke with her about how 1 year olds are big girls and do not use bottles anymore..

I took her to Target and let her pick out her own sippy cup (I purchased 2 just alike).

Then I placed it on the kitchen counter.. I let her hold it when she asked.. On the night before her birthday I told her she was "drinking her last bottle" and in the morning she would "get to drink" from the sippy cup.. When she went to sleep I threw away all bottle stuff.. In the morning I asked her if she wanted milk or juice in the cup..

At her birthday party that day everybody gave her a sippy cup, so we had a ton.. Each time she wanted a cup, I let her pick out the one she wanted to use.

We never had a problem and never looked back..

With my twins, we started giving them their sippy cups around 6 months. I always made sure it was on their tray so they knew it was part of their meal. They really didn't start using them until they were about 10 months old, and then a week before they turned one we took away the bottles and formula--they had no other choice. :)

She may not use the sippy right away, but it is important to offer it to her. One of these days she will just pick it up and start using it!

My baby took sips from our cups until he could master the fast flowing sippy cups then at about age 10 mos he got it.
Then we transitioned to cups w/a built in straw (avail at Wal-Mart) and those are great! Better for the teeth too, I think.

We used the Nuby Sports Sipper cups to transition from bottles. The long silicone spout is close to a nipple, but clearly not the same.

Worked beautifully!

She is too young for a sippy cup. Keep her on bottles until about 12 months and she won't have the problems with sippies. Why do parents rush their children to grow up these days? It will happen soon enough.

My son would just play with his sippy cup at seven months. He didn't really get the hang of it until he was about eleven months. And, he didn't like juice at first - tried the Gerber apple/carrot...so it may just have been the flavor. He loves Juicy Juice. Also, when we first started the sippy cup, the pediatrician did recommend breastmilk over juice. Not sure if you are breastfeeding but definitely try the breastmilk or formula in the sippy cup before the juice.

i would only put formula or breast milk in the sippy. they usually do better with that because they like the taste of it better than juice. nubby has a great graduation system that starts with a bottle like sippy and moves on up from there. 7 months might be young, but if you think she is ready go for it. i didn't start the sippy with both my girls (5 and 2) until 11 months or so. as far as time of day i would say whenever she is in her best mood.
