As REQ
My children like to have the goodnight on, They know its part of routine, but I am afraid they are getting very comfortable with peeing in them.

I don't think you can "train" them since it's developmental and physiological. It's considered normal for kids to need a nighttime diaper or pull-up until age 5 or 6 and many do. Every kid is different.

2 is definately too young and 4 it is perfectly normal for a child to still need a diaper. one of two things needs to happen either 1. their bodies learn to recognize the signal that they receive when their bladders are full so they wake and go to the bathroom or 2. they get to the point where they can hold it all night.

You can't train them... to not get a full bladder at night.
Night time dryness... is something that is not physiologically attained, until even 7 years old. This is per Pediatricians. This is NORMAL.

Both my kids, KNOW and knew diapers are only for sleep. They don't get confused of complacent.

My daughter, was already 5 years old, when she 'could' stop wearing night time diapers.
My son is 4 and he still needs to wear night time diapers.

Per our Pediatrician... AND my Daughter's Teachers since Preschool through 1st Grade... they ALL said.... that accidents at night, or kids wearing diapers at night is NORMAL. BUT, the parents will not admit it... because they feel embarrassed. But... they said it is normal for these ages.
It is biological maturity of the organs... and it is separate... from daytime dryness ability.

all the best,
Susan

Kids can't really decide to be dry at night. As their physical and nervous system mature, this stage arrives by itself. It may be well into the elementary school years for some kids – often it's boys who need the most time.

I'm a bit confused by your request; do your children stay dry at night but insist on the diaper? Or they still wake up wet many mornings? I hope you'll clarify.

How often did your daughter wake up with a dry diaper?

We started full-on potty training (undies 24/7) when our guy went a week with a dry night diaper (right at 2 years). Since then, he's only had one accident. Could they be holding it all night or only going when awake (like before falling asleep or once they wake up)? Have you tried training pants for night time- like real old-style cloth ones, so they can feel the wetness? Good luck!!

I think you just need to tell them that you are going to be moving away from the diaper. It is going to be a time of practice for them and for you. Get a mattress protector and blankets that can be washed often if need be. Keep their confidence up.

I also took the tack of waking up the children to go pee in the middle of te night before they peed in their bed. It didn't always work, but - ? that is what I did.

You can also tell them that it is better for them to sleep dry - and not have so many things/clothes on.

good luck!

Many kids are not able to night potty train till they are much older. They sleep right through the urge to pee and their bladders are very small. My son was day trained by 3 1/2 but he was in pull ups at night till he was about 7 yrs old.
When he woke up dry every morning for 2 weeks straight, it was time to get rid of the pull ups. By then he could wake up if he needed the bathroom in the night. There were still a few accidents here and there, but we knew it was possible and we did not constantly have wet pajamas, bed, sheets, blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc.

They are still pretty young and it takes a long time after they are potty trained during the day to get to the point that they no longer need pull ups at night. For me, when I noticed that my children consistently stayed dry for a 2-week period, that's when I stopped buying the pull ups but, even then, we still had random accidents for a year or 2 later. It just takes time for them to physiologically be able to hold their bladder throughout the night. It's not something that you can train them to do.

I think it is something you have to base on each child. When you notice that they are waking up in a dry pull-up for maybe 2wks+, I would go ahead and start skipping the pullups (and limiting water/drinks after dinner.)
But EXPECT accidents! I didn't stop with pull-ups until my son turned six, and I don't plan to stop with 4yr old right now.

My daughter is 3 and we started potty training her at 2 1/2. When we decided to potty train it was all or nothing. She went straight from pullups to panties 24/7. This helped her to know that she needed to stay dry at night. Of course there were a few accidents in the beggining and every now and then there is still a small accident but a child will not learn to stay dry and that peeing at night is not ok if you let them sleep in diapers every night. A way to keep night time accidents from happening is to slow down the intake of liquids about 1-2 hours prior to bed time. Good luck!

I think it is confusing to kids to say it is ok to wear diapers at night , but not during the day. My one child was totally off of diapers at age 2 and the other at 3. I think you need to try it at night without the diapers and see what happens. If they are wearing the diapers, they don't feel the wetness. It is more convenient for them, so sure they want to wear them. Put them to bed with big kid undies, and remind them that they need to use the bathroom. Make sure they don't drink too much before bed and make sure the bed has a waterproof pad on and not too many blankets, etc ( to have to wash). Lots of praise when they are dry in the morning!
