He needs to see a doctor and have a blood test. So many possibilities. Diabetes, some sort of Male testosterone problems,,
Make the appt and go with him if you have to. Do not wait around about this.
So my husband has a tendency to have bad body smells. He seems to have fixed the breath, to a degree, but the last couple of days he has had a rank odor about his body. Kind of like something emanating from his pores. It's not b.o. - he almost never has that. This time it's kind of like that old alcohol smell - that aroma someone puts off after they've had a lot to drink the day before - except he had only had one beer one day, and a glass of wine the next - nothing out of the ordinary.
My husband is pretty healthy - eats well and maybe only 10 lbs. overweight. So I don't know why he should so often have an unpleasant aroma about him. Smell is REALLY important to me. Does anyone have any good dietary or other remedies or ideas about rank body smell?
thanks.

Has he always been like this or is this a recent change?
He needs to see a doctor and get a physical.
There are so MANY Metabolic Disorders (the site below lists about 13) which can affect body odor.
Some are trivial while others are more serious.
He should go just to have it identified.

What is he eating or drinking? Garlic or curry can make you smell. So can drinking alcohol (even moderate amounts) - my DH was a fan of the whiskey sour but his new diet has him off the sour mix. It's made a difference. It's only been something I've noticed in the last year or so - perhaps age/hormones plus the drink? (My DH only has one drink IF he drinks, per night.) How are his feet? And have you tried getting him a different deodorant or body wash? Old Spice makes an Odor Blocker version. If it's not obvious, have him see the doctor.
Sounds like a metabolic issue to me too . . . besides seeking some expert advice I might try keeping a food diary to spot trends (people can be highly intolerant to certain healthy foods too).
he should see a doctor and make sure everything is ok if his diet, habits, etc. hasn't changed but his "smell" has.
I go with the doctor and a full workup just to make sure you catch whatever it is before it gets to a critical stage. It could be the beginnings of diabetes. It could be another physical disorder.
Trust your nose and know what to do. You know something is not right.

I would like to weigh in with those who say the first step is to see a doctor for a full workup, and please be sure your husband isn't embarrassed or hesitant to say frankly, "Doc, I have a bad body odor all over and we need to find out the source and whether it's medical."
Rule out any medical causes before turning to home remedies or dietary changes. As someone else noted, diabetes can produce a specific odor for some people; also, certain infections can produce odors; he could have some form of skin yeast infection going on; get those kinds of things ruled out first.
I would be especially concerned because the odor has begun in "the last couple of days" as you put it. The sudden onset would worry me and make me think it's likelier to be something medical or something related to a sudden change in his diet. If he'd been having issues with strong sweat odor over the years, etc., it wouldn't be as big a deal, but such a sudden start to such a strong odor would definitely indicate something other than a person who just naturally has strong body odor.
Is it garlic? My boss REEKS after a garlicky dinner the night before!
He needs to go to the doctor. Sometimes the body can emit odors like that when there is something internal going on. Get it check out---it could save his life! Best wishes!

Oh my, I've been wanting to ask this about my husband lately, too! I never noticed it before, but the last few months when I have picked him up from work he SMELLS when he gets in the car! Not like B.O. but yeah, a little musty/old man/drinking the day before smell. I only casually said something to him once, like "I think your sport coat smells a bit odd, maybe your office smells funny; better take it in for a cleaning soon." If I told him he smelled he'd be SO embarrassed and pissed off at the same time.
He also leaves a discoloration on our pillows that does not come out in the wash! Kind of yellow/orange/rust-ish. He had ruined so many pillowcases and pillows. We've tried switching hair products but nothing has worked. I'm thinking it's all related but the smell is new while he pillow problem has gone on for years.
Guess maybe I'll have to convince him to see a doctor. Don't see that happening, though.
I know that when my husband eats garlic he will have a strong smell about him. Perhaps it is with other foods as well?
