Hi, ladies!

I was wondering whether any of you have heard of hynobirthing or have tried this method of birthing with your babies? I have recently become very interested in using this method as our birthing method. We are having a natural birth at a birthing center. We are using a wonderful midwife named April Bullock at Birthwise in Austin, and she is how I first found out about this method. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I've never heard of this method before, but sounds very interesting. Are you fully aware while laboring if you are hypnotized? I had a homebirth 2 years ago and used a focusing method that really helped me stay alert and aware, but also allowed me to rise above the pain mentally.
Best of luck!

Hi M.!
Welcome to Austin! We moved here almost 3 1/2 years ago from Dallas and you'd have to drag me back there kicking and screaming.

Anyway, I do know one person who tried the hypnobirthing with her first. She had the baby at home, too. Basically, she said it was misleading in terms of expectations; she described it as a crock of sh** and doesn't recommend it. It didn't work for her.

Hope that helps!
L.

Hi,

I am a senior midwife student and I had my second daughter at home three years ago. I took hypnobirthing and it was great. I was in labor over 16 hours and it really helped me to relax. It also helped my husband know what to do to help me. I know April and she seems very nice.

Blessings,
Lisa

Hi M.,

I tried hypnobirthing with my first child, and it was not successful for me. It helped for a while, but the techniques could not carry me through to the end. My OB said that it happens that way for many women.

I think it depends more on you as a person and your tendency for hypnosis. I was not able to put myself under completely, so it didn't work well for me. Spending a lot of time practicing and with the support of your birthing partner will help. Since this is your second experience with childbirth, you already know what to expect while in labor which will help.

Good luck.
