Hysterectomy - Plymouth Meeting, PA

my doctor says 25 and 2 children. I had a hysterectomy at 25 because of cervical cancer but i also have 3 children. I do not regret my decision one bit, I am just waiting paitently for grandbabies. LOL

I believe it depends on the state you live in, what your OBGYN believes is appropriate, your insurance and if they will cover it if it is not medically necessary.

I asked for one at the age of 24 and was told NO and that no one would do one. I asked again at the age of 28 and was told the exact same thing and I live in a different area.

Now, I just live and deal and learn and use natural alternatives and herbs to deal with the nature life send us.

Can I ask why you want one????

I don't think it has anything to do with age.....I think the problem you will run into is that no dr is going to want to do major surgery, one that can have a negative effect on you health for the rest of your life, for no medical reason. If you're looking for permanant birth control, I would think having your tubes ties would be a much better solution.

Hello R.. First of all - why would you want to have a hysterectomy? Secondly - I don't think an ob/gyn would perform a hysterectomy just because you want one. Thirdly - I think you should read up on the after-effects of having a non-medical hysterectomy. Please email me back. I'm curious as to why you would want to have a hysterectomy.

Doctors do not do hysterectomy's just because you want one you actually have to have a medical reason to have one done.

alot of ob/gyn won't do it unless there is a medical problem. I had one done when I was 30 years old because i continually came on my period and eventually became anemic. So, I had an ultrasound done and they found I had fibriods on my uterus.

I don't think a doctor will do a hysterectomy just because you want one. And if they do, your insurance will not cover it unless there's a medical reason for it.

I have never heard of a doctor doing one for elective purposes. I would talk to your primary care dr about options and alternatives. She or he may suggest some therapy to explore your options before they will make any further referrals.

I don't know of any OB/GYN's who would just do a hysterectomy for purely elective reasons. It's more of a surgery of last resort.

I don't understand why you would want one. Removing the uterus causes a lot of hormonal problems and it would mean that you would have to be on hormones for the rest of your life just to be normal.

Since it is a major surgery not doctor will agree to do one just becuase you want it to happen. There has to be a medical reason for you to get one.

If you just want some sort of perment birth control see about getting your tubes tied.

In Pennsylvania, a doctor WILL NOT perform a hysterectomy on a healthy woman. There has to be some problem affecting the uterus in order for them to remove it.

Hi R.. I'd like to just urge you to think about this a lot more before you do anything you might regret. First of all, when I was a young woman, I thought I didn't want kids. But as I aged, I realized this was very important to me. Second,there are a lot of medical factors involved with having a hysterectomy. Sure, you won't have a period anymore, but you also will need hormone replacement. Which means taking drugs for the rest of your life. You will have early menopause, and a host of other things could happen that you really shouldn't have to endure. Why don't you consider some of the new birth control methods that lessen your periods. I have just had the Mirena inserted, and it is basically an I.U.D. After the first six months, I won't have another period for five years. Please consider everything before you make a rash decision.

If it not for medical reasons, your have to pay for it out of pocket, usually insurance won't cover even a portion of it. I don't think they will do one, no matter how old you are, if its not needed. You have to take A LOT of horomone supplements to replenish what's not there and I know quite a few people that's told me if you don't take them you start growing facial hair and your voice lowers etc. Just something tjo think about.

I don't mean to be nosy, but why would want to get that done if you need to and at an "earlier" ageF? If you don't want anymore children you can get a tubal litigation and if its a thing with your menstural cycle, there is other option to deal with that as well. I have that new IUD, the "mirena" one and I just absolutely love it. I don't have a period and the doctor says its not unhealthy to not have one and its suppose to be the most effective out there right now. Unlike the old "copper" IUD thats lasts for 10 years, this one only lasts for 5, but it has a lot less complications and/or side effects. And as an asdded bonus....its not suppose to make you gain weight.

I don't know why you want to have a hysterectomy, if its to prevent having children, I would talk to your doctor about going another route. When you have a hysterectomy, your body goes through alot of hormonal changes that aren't very pleasant. I don't know from personal experience but my MIL had one and has to by on hormones that have side effects and she has to change them every so often. I don't think really is a age limit, but it is major surgery with all the risks and complications that go along with it. So I would definitly talk to your doctor and get all the information before doing something that drastic.
