Hi M., How about having the party at Jack and Jills in Petaluma. The kids love it. They can dress up, do crafts, and play. I think you bring the cake. I've spoken with people that were very happy with it. Good Luck-D.
Help, I would like to have a birthday party for my daughter who is turning 3. I would love to do a tea party theme but she is just way to young for that. I would welcome any suggestions that some of you ladies may have.

Take them to a bounce house place and let them bounce themselves silly. It's a finite amount of time, parents can easily hang out, pizza, and bring your own cake. The even provide a gift bag.
We didn't do this for our 3 yr old. We had a pool and did a Nemo theme. It was a Parent & Me swim lesson. Activities were swim lesson, Find Nemo in the sand box (dig for Nemo bubble blowers), decorate a foam visor, color a page for daughter's b-day book, lunch, and cake. Small gift bag with a felt Nemo on it (daughter glued them on to prep for party, but could have been an activity) and a Nemo swim ring or raft.
Ballet party- We did for 4 yr. Kids came and made crown (fairy or dragon, their choice....slip beads on stiff wire or glue jewels on yellow foam crown pattern-put two together...one aorund head and one down back), had stetching exercised, learned a few dance terms, danced and danced, lunch, cake.
We always have a foam core stand up to go with the theme for kids to take their pictures with and we include that with thank you card. Nemo we had Bruce the shark saying "El is my friend!" Ballet was Angelina Ballerina theme (invite, cake, etc.).
Have fun with it! It's my favorite holiday.

This is so much fun and will be great in time for Spring/ Summer out on the lawn. You could have a Mad Hatter Themed Tea Party. Ask everyone on the invitation to wear a silly hat or arrange for them to decorate them there at her party, have a game of croquet or have a tea cup relay, and a short story time ( Alice in Wonderland) early or later in the party for the little guests. Serve Tea (Hot & Cold) with little sandwiches and scones (finger foods are bast). Depending on where you live you can have your bakery make a tea pot cake. I had one made at Eddies bakery in Fresno Ca and it was beautiful! It would be fun to decorate all of the table settings with random tea cups found at a salvage shop, Antique shop and or thrift store. For favors you could put jelly beans in to little plastic tea cups. My daughter is 29 months and she LOVEs camomile tea she has it regularly so I do not think 3 is too young at all for a tea party. Good Luck!
For one of my childrens birthday we did a party with their handprint as an invitation that read, Please give me a hand celebrating my birthday ect... For the party I had t-shirts that they decorated with their hand prints which served as party favor. You could also get little tote bags from orential trading. I love having the keep sake of her little handprint invitation. Then just pick some hands on activities like play dough, bean bag toss, bubbles. A great place for idea's is www.birthdaypartyideas.com . I love that website for idea's. Have fun
Are you a member of the Discovery Museum at Fort Baker, Sausalito? They have a room for birthday parties and they help coordinate with different themes. They have face painters, etc. There is so much to do there, and then they gather for cake and ice cream and activities in their special room. I've seen some parties there and we want to do one for our son when he turns 3 or 4.
The dollar tree also has great goody bags, or if you choose to go with the brown paper bags maybe have some stickers, crayons or other non-messy art supplies out and let them decorate their own goody bag, just be sure to put their names on them. You can also pick up bubbles from the dollar tree and those are always a huge hit at my daughter's birthday parties. Good Luck, have fun and enjoy =o)
I love the tea party idea! I remember having an inexpensive plastic set of tea things for 4, which would be perfect for her and three guests. If you didn't want to keep them, you could send each child with a cup/saucer for a party favor. I think my daughter had a joint party with her brother that year - he turned one just after (that was the only year i got away with that!). It was a Thomas the Tank Engine theme. If you are inviting adults also, you could have nicer tea things for them. Alternatively, there are ideas at birthdaypartyexpress.com. They are somewhat expensive, but I got some ideas from them and did my own thing. Maybe it is birthdayexpress.com - this was years ago!
M.,
Check out Theme Fest in San Jose. They have many different themed play areas that the kids can play in and it is perfect for kids your daughter’s age. It is all about imagination and letting the kids decide what they want to do. They have area for the kids to be princesses, pirates, cowboys and many more. They also have an art room, karaoke room and a game room.
Here is there web-site:

You know 3 year olds..is still all about playing..keep it simple...but if there is a theme she likes then go for it....my 3 year old had a Barbie Island Bday party...we had water fun in backyard since it was summer..but since we are in the winter...I think the kids just playing is fine....I tried to do a game and it didnt' fly...pin the tiarra on the barbie.....but the cake was a barbie cake and we had the matching plates, etc...but to save money, you can certainly just get the colored plates and cups that go with the themed cake.....the pull string pinata is a must for 3 year olds and you can use zip lock bags or brown paper bags to save money for the kids to collect pinata goodies..for pinata get stuff your daughter likes ....playdough, jewerly....check the dollar store for these items...you'll save big time...also...the pinta stuffing can also count as each invitees goody bag...no sense and sendning more stuff home....also, if you don't have time for presents, you can hold off on opening those until everyone goes home....sometimes it does get a little wild with 3 year olds.
A friend of mine did a butterfly party for her daughter. It was in the summer so they could do most of the activities outside. I think she got the idea from Martha Stewart Magazine or one of those types.
They made butterfly paintings with a footprint. dip one foot in tempra paint stamp onto largeish sheet of paper. Fold paper so the mirror image of the print shows up next to the first for the other set of wings. Rinse feet in a kiddy pool.
She had made crepe paper streamers for the kids to hold in each hand and fly around the yard in a follow the leader kind of game that took them out to the garden/ orchard area where they went on a butterfly hunt.
The butterflys were snack size ziplock bags with colorful candies (runts, fruitloops, etc. She tied a pipecleaner around the middle so candies were on each side and shaped antenae with the ends of the pipe cleaners. the cake was one of those creations with a bunch of cupcakes put together to form a large decorated cake.

I've heard gymboree (sp)is a blast for kids that age as well as the teddy bear factory type places.
I think a tea part is perfect for 5 year olds, personally. My friend did it for her daughter and had the girls wear pretty dresses, bring their favorite doll or teddy bear. They had little sandwiches and got tiaras for the goody bag. I'm already mentally planning my daughters =O)
I've also seen some cute "Hawaiian" theme party supplies on line, little grass skirts are cute.
I found early on that "themes" can be really expensive. For my youngest son this year (next week!) we're just going to a park. We have a pinata and goody bags, etc. I'm bringing THE BEST activity idea ever: I picked up huge bubble wands at the dollar store. Guaranteed to keep kids busy for an hour at least. We try to keep it simple. The kids don't care at this age. On the other hand, I've known moms who have thrown over-the-top pirate parties and they were so neat. It depends on what level you want to go to.
When our friend's was 3 (she's snow 16!) she loved to play dress-up so that was the theme for her party. Her mom is quite handy w/a sewing machne so over the years had bought old party dresses at the Goodwill & cut them down for her daughter. If you have dress-up clothes already, you'd be set. You could also add in some cheap jewelry from your collection or the dollar store for them to put on. I have another friend who did a princess party when her daughter turned 3 last year. She only invited a few girls who all came dressed up in their princess outfits & they had daintly little sandwiches, drank from plastic champagne cups & had princess-themed decorations.
go to www.familyfun.com and check out birthday parties, I swear by them. Good Luck!
I had my daughters 3rd Birthday Party at " Lemos Farm" in Half Moon Bay.. It was a blast! U can get a picnic area..and your own private jumper! You can also get your own private set of Ponies for children to ride on, and there is a really fun train ride, a petting zoo with little goats?! They also have a playgrond an all these other attractions.. U bring your own food or order pizza through them. And u also bring your own cake. I definitely recommend.. though not sure how the outdors will be during the winter, since ours was in the summer :) Good luck!
M.,
For Christmas "santa" bought our now 2 year old a play tea set for christmas and a table and chairs, she and her older brothers loved it so much we asked for a bigger real tea set for her birthday on the 4th of this month.. SHE LOVES IT!! And asks me at least once a day if we can have a tea party... if you are worried about her not being old enough for one try out one of those little toy ones, you can find one almost anywhere with toys for about $10-15 dollars and she might very well suprise you!! My little princess tipped us off that she would enjoy having a tea set of her own because she found my neti-pot (it looks like a tea pot but its for your sinus's) and would play with it all the time! *LOL* so have a tea party, there is nothing more fun at that age than dressing up and eating fun foods!!
Good luck and enjoy her special day!!

I offer a party idea that is new and refreshing and lots of fun for kids of all ages. It's a traveling stuff-n-fluff workshop in which the children make their own stuffed animals. It's called Noah's Ark Animal Workshop, and one of the great things about it is tht I COME TO YOU! You can visit my website, www.planetfluff.net, to find out more about this type of activity for your child's birthday party. Or just give me a call at ###-###-#### and I'd be happy to tell you more about it.

Yes, have a tea party. One invited child per year old- turn three, three guests. Make it simple with cookies, juice and a tiny cake. All of which they can serve themselves with a child size tea set. Set it up outside, weather permitting, and let them play. Make it simple. Let the children decorate the cookies, cut up fruit (yes, three year olds can cut fruit! Show them how! bananas- easy!), pour the juice into the tea pot and let them serve themselves. You will be making happy memories for the children. Get out funny hats and dress up clothes too!
In a few years your daughter will be ready to go to a tea shoppe for tea with a delightful backround of tea parties to draw on for behavior and a working knowledge of what is entailed.
You should check out Super Franks in Pleasanton. They have a princess room, complete with castle. They also just put in a Taught Town. It is so cute. If you haven't heard of it, it is like an "upscale" Chuck E Cheese, but way better. Goto to superfranks.com and look at the pictures. You'll love it.
I love http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/. It's ideas from other moms that have done fabulous birthday parties. Most of them are themed and most of them are done at home. They probably have a tea themed birthday party with ideas that you could adapt for a 3 year old. Have fun!
Hi M.,
At that age anything goes -I am planning a Mad Hatter Tea Party (Alice in Wonderland) theme for my daughters 2nd birthday. There will be older kids there who may understand more but trust me I am getting a bounce house as I know that will be the main attraction for all of the kids.
Good Luck
We just had our three year old's birthday party at My Gym in San Jose. All the kids LOVED it!! It was from 10-11:30 and we took cupcakes and some snacks (didn't need the snacks as everyone was having too much fun). The adults stood around and talked/watched the kids and the kids had a blast with the teachers. The place was clean, they sanitized the kids before eating, and they got us out without any issues. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
