I am getting ready to start using Cloth Diaper with pockets and some AIO but I am not sure what detergent to use and also which diaper cream is okay to use with cloth diapers. Also do you recommend a Wet bag and if so how many and what size or brand. I am due in September and then I will have 2 in diapers, Oh yeah one more thing do you use a wet or dry pale and do you recommend the diaper spray? I need some ideas on a easy system that works for me as I will have 2 in diapers and I have 5 kids and 1 on the way. I want cloth diapers to work for me and my husband so any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated!
TIA
V.

I cloth diapered two kids successfully. I used a dry pail. I just used an old garbage can we had in the basement and dumped it out on wash day. I had 2 wetbags I rotated and one large one for travelling. I preferred Leslie's Boutique ones but used WAHMie's ones too. I used All free and clear and had no problems and also sometimes used Tide Free with no problems. I think pinstripesandpolkadots.com has detergent info. I had a diaper sprayer that I loved! I never had to actually touch any poop that way and the diapers got cleaned off way better than dunking and swishing them. I think that prefolds and covers are the easiest system personally especially with two in diapers. they are easy to wash, quick to dry, and you can't really ruin them. I never used cream but if I did I put a fleece liner in so it didn't touch the diaper directly. I bought a piece of cheap fleece at Hobby Lobby in a clearance bin and cut it into strips. I did the same for wipes. For a wipe spray I used a small spray bottle and filled it with water and one pump of baby wash and a few drops of tea tree oil. Worked like a charm and is great for washing hands and faces too. I am looking to sell a lot of my fitted diapers and sprayer and covers if you have any interest in buying used. You can PM me. Good luck. Cloth diapers are so much better for your baby, our world and financially.

diapers have changed since my oldest was small he is almost 21 so adjust according to what others are telling you. I had the safety pins with the plastic pants (don't think those exist anymore) I think the plastic is built in now. I would rinse in toilet and put in bleach water at wash time pour water down toilet and use regular soap and bleach.
If you run out tea towels work good. I used desitin and powder. so now you know how we did it 20 yrs ago.

If you have one in your area, I strongly recommend a diaper service. They make the whole thing soooooo easy. I hope you get some other helpful hints though on laundering them yourself.

Here's a great site about detergent choices:
http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoices.htm

I use Country Save powder (from Sprouts) and it works really well.

About what a previous poster said, you want to be careful with bleach. It can damage the diapers.

I would recommend spending some time on www.diaperswappers.com
It can be overwhelming at first, but there is a TON of info there about what to do/not do.

As far as diaper cream, California Baby works great and is safe for cloth. You can get it at Target.

I use a dry pail and a diaper sprayer, but didn't start using the sprayer until my daughter started solids. Early on, you can just throw the whole thing in the wash.

Good luck! You're making a great choice!
