i had my tubes tied almost 5 years ago but here recently i had a hysteroscopy d and c and a laproscopy done. my doc discovered my tubes were no longer tied. she cut some scar tissue away but i am not sure if i can get pregnant or not. i called the nurse after the surgery because all this info was relayed by my hubby who talked to the doctor after my surgery. the nurse says yes but she can't say for a 100 percent because she hadn't spoke to the doctor. my follow up isn't for another week and it is driving me crazy. so has anyone had this happen? can i get pregnant again? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I think one of the people here read your question wrong. You didn't have a hysterectomy, you had a hysteroscopy, which is very different. If you had a hysterectomy, your uterus would be gone, so you couldn't have a child. It sounds like your tubes are cleaned out now, and untied, so I would say, yes, you have the potential to get pregnant. I'm a nurse, not a doctor, so I can't say for certain, but that is what I think. Relax, use condoms or some other form of birth control until you see your doctor, and ask him/her then. Or, if you prefer, call during office hours and leave a message for the doctor to call you back, or ask the nurse to relay the message for you. If the doctor says yes, you could get pregnant, you may consider getting your tubes retied. Best wishes.

This has never happened to me personaly but my mom had her tubes tied when she had my sister and then she had them untied to have another child. Seriously, she had 2 miscarriages when she did get pregenant but they tried and tried. Finally she had to take the fertility pills and well, she had my sister, 13 months later she had my brother and 12 months later she had my youngest brother. Holy Moly, she had me and my sister which we are 3 years apart and then the 3 little ones. Beleive me I felt sorry for her which we helped her alot. Needless to say it may seem like you can't get pregenant but I am sure you will it just may take a little time. I just hope (unless you want) that you dont have 3 all in a row!

You probably can get pregnant. But there is no real percent guarantee associated with it, no matter what anyone says. If your tubes are not perfect, you may have a higher risk of ectopic pregnancy, too. Do you WANT more children? If not, I would suggest some form of birth control, just in case.

It is possible for your tubes to grow back together depending on how your doctor performed the procedure. There are many different ways of doing it, it just depends on the doctor. And you should also find out if it is both tubes or just one. I would deffinately ask them, you may be able to call the office and leave a message to have the doctor call you back when it is convenient for her, I know I would go crazy too in a week.

Good Luck!

Hi V.,
I would say YES you can get pregnant. I ?d my D-N-L (she is a RN in the NICU, She has gone through mid-wife training etc. & worked with an OB) she says there is a very good chance you could conceive. I trust her opinion, she helped me thru my fertility probs when I got pregnant with my son. Good luck!

I would call and ask for an answer from the doctor. This is an issue that can't be put off. Being "aware" of where you are in your cycle should be helpful for the next week until your appt. Typically approx 10-12 days after your period is when you are fertile. One way to tell for sure would be to take an ovulation test if you are choosing to be "intimate". This isn't 100% but it is close.
Good luck!
