I breast fed my twins to 6 months and stopped. Then re-started at 10 months because they kept tugging on my shirt. They finally stopped at 15 months and my milk finally stopped at 22 months. My doctor said it is normal.

I stopped breast feeding my son about 31/2 months ago and I can not get my breast milk to dry up. I slowly weaned my son off thinking that the milk would gradually dry up, but it did not and it still leaks everyday. I have tried everything my dr. has recommended. Please help.

I honey I understand...speaking as a mother that breast fed 3... it will dry up eventually. I will be uncomfortable for a while. But don't pump wait till you can't stand the pressure any more and squeese out just enough to not get infected. My youngest was 2yrs old and everytime I heard a newborn cry I would leak a little (just a little clear stuff). And it was just a year or 4 years ago (after my hysterectomy) that I stopped feeling that "let down" when a newborn cried. Of course I was such a cow I could have fed every baby in the neighborhood LOL! Anyways trust me honey it will stop eventualy. Just be patient, and try not to stimulate them to much.
i could still squeeze milk out for a year. The pain went away after about six months.
I think I could still express almost two years after I stopped nursing. Not unusual at all!
I stopped nursing in June (after 33 months) and I can still express milk.
I was told that it can take up to a year for your body to stop producing. I'd suggest just wearing nursing pads. You can try green cabbage leaves in your bra. Change when they wilt. It's suppose to dry you up.
M.- Hasn't your DR offered to give you a shot to take care of that?
Maybe contact your local lactation office for some ideas...if all else fails birth contol pill (estrogen) will clear that right up!

M., you may want to go take a look at your nearby oganic store...they mayhave a herbal suplament that you can take.. i know with me my milk just went down at just 3 months so i had to stop didn't want to but that is my advice.. i know i can still expell a bit once in a while...it'll be okay
I know women that haven't nursed for 20+ years & they can still get some milk out. Don't be too surprised. Give it at least a year to go away.
Eating sage (yummy dressing!!!) can help dry the milk up.
After I stopped nursing my oldest when I was pregnant with my 2nd, I could still get a little out months later...
It is normal. It is an inconvenience, but normal.
I did'nt make much milk when I had mine but I still leaked for almost a year afterwards. I think it might just be normal.
