I Can't Be the Only one...with Tiny Feet

I have exhausted all the store options locally and I find that no one carries womens size 5.5 shoe. Seriously no one carries them locally (small town...target, sears, younkers, etc all tell me that they have a history of not selling under size 6 locally so they do not stock them). I can order at a few places...Last night was the finally attempt for me...I was kinda sad to hear the lady say, if you want that size you need to go over to the girls section. Well I looked and nothing is "adult" enough for me....I need new summer shoes :(

So am I the only one? And how painful is it to order a pair of shoes and if they don't fit right return them?!?!

What can I do next?

I wear a 5.5 or a 6, depending on the show. NO KIDDING it's hard to find shoes!

Try DSW or Zappos online, that's where I've found a lot. Just read the reviews to see if they run big or small so you know which size to order :)

It's not hard at all to exchange shoes, usually, it's usually pre paid and you're not charged anything if you're exchanging the shoe. Zappos has the BEST customer service EVER.

BTW, I most definitely have no problem shopping the kids section ;)

size 11! And I'm only 5'7". Crazy. I can never find shoes on sale or clearance. Stores only buy a couple pair of 11s.

Try Shoe Dept. I was just noticing how adult the girls shoes were!

I wear a 5.5 too! I have the same problem as you (I guess I'm not looking at the right places either). I love Zappos. Super easy to return if shoes don't fit right. Good luck!

I wear a 5.5 and I find them everywhere. Khols, JC Pennys, Target, Ross, Marshalls, random shoes stores in the mall, department stores... I have gotten some cute shoes in the girls section before.

I'm a size 8.5 so I'm no help in terms of brick and mortar stores you can go to. But ah, the wonders of the internet. Amazon.com has a great return policy so don't fret about returning things to them.

You just throw the shoes back in the box. Tape it up. Slap the pre-generated return label onto the original box and send that sucker back.

I am on the other side. It is SO HARD to find cute women's shoes in a size 12. Have you tried Nordstrom Rack? IT's the only place I can find bigger shoes at. My SIL wears a size 4. My kid's feet are bigger than hers. She just buys her shoes in the girls section.

If you live close to a payless shoe store you can always order on line and have it shipped to the store. Then you can try them on, pay for what fits, and return the rest. My youngest daughter wears a size 5.5 and it's always been hit or miss shoe shopping. She's also a size 0 and it's hard to find professional looking clothes without paying an arm and a leg.

Really? You can't find that size?? I swear, evertime I venture into DSW or Dillard's clearance areas, all the best stuff is in those tiny sizes or the larger 9+ sizes. Do you have a Von Maur department store near you, I definitely know they carry small sizes.

Maryland Square has them. It's a catalog though. Also, Naturalizer has small sizes. Online is your best bet. They are usually better quality too. I wear a 5 and my mom wears a 4.5!! Three cheers for the little feet gals.

I'd love to have smaller feet! I feel like I have skateboards on the end of my legs sometimes even though they're not too far off from other ladies I know. I order a TON of shoes online just becasue you can sometimes find better deals and a larger selection. On the return thing, it completely depends on where you get them. Some places I've ordered from have a 15 day return policy, some have 30, one even had a 12 month! I loved that one...I had the top seam on suede boots split a few times due to thin material (I had them in 3 colors, the black never gave me any trouble, the brown did once but the dark green ones were never right), the first time I returned them, I bought a larger size thinking my foot was too fat...but even with the fit being loose, the seam still frayed. They took them back everytime and the last time refunded my money completely because they kept splitting. I use Amazon a lot, another site called Beyond the Rack.com, Newport News, and Spiegel...

Huh. My feet were size 5.5 in about the 3rd grade...

But I have the opposite problem - shoes in a size 11 aren't super easy to find locally, either. Nordstrom carries them, and that's about all! I order a lot of shoes from ShoeDazzle.com - fairly inexpensive and shipping/ return shipping is included.

A friend of mine from high school is of Taiwanese descent and her feet are a size 4. She actually goes to Taiwan from time to time to shoe shop. Her shoe size isn't all that unusual there, I guess! (But that's a long trip to make if all you want to do is buy shoes...)

I don't have your problem - I have rather the opposite problem (size 9) - but I've ordered shoes from Zappos.com and their return policy is great! You might want to check it out. And they have lots of sizes. I order shoes online because I have narrow feet and that makes shoes hard to find in stores.

Where are you shopping? I wear a 5.5 or 6 and have very little trouble finding shoes (sneakers are tricky, though):

Macy's
Nordstrom
DSW
Target
Payless
TJ Maxx
Marshalls

I have tiny feet. I wear a size 3-4 in girls :( I am forever searching for adult looking shoes. Not to mention, even if I wanted to wear some heels, I couldn't find them that small. I feel for ya!

Also, ordering and returning shoes is not that bad. I recommend only buying shoes from somewhere that offers free returns, or you'll have to pay shipping. Try www.zappos.com

I would recommend a nice shoe department store like Nordstrom's.

I have the opposite problem, as I'm a size 10. I try on what I like, which is always Mephisto's. Then I order that size or sole from Ebay. No need to return, because I know which sole fits.

Make sure to take note of the European size too while trying on shoes.

I've heard great things about buying shoes on-line from Zapato's. I have not tried them.

I have a co-worker that has feet even smaller than you. She can't even get women's shoes so she has to get little kid shoes. She gets most of hers at Kohl's.

Same problem here...I wear a size 5 and it is definitely a pain in the butt. I don't really order, I just go everywhere until I finally find what I'm looking for.

Have you looked at high end designer girls' sandals lately? They are fabulous and cost a fraction of what they charge for women's sizes. (they want to get the girls hooked while they're young.) Check Nordstrom for a sampling. Then you might revisit the idea of buying kid's shoes :-)

I'm a 5.5 to 6 depending on the shoe. The section for that size range is usually very small, even if it's not juvenile. I troll the racks at DSW and Payless and if I find something (like Sketchers) that fits my small, wide foot, I order more online. Zappos will return for free (or they did, last I ordered).

(For smaller sized work clothes, try Ann Taylor Loft.)

My SD has the opposite problem. Not as many cute shoes in 10.5 to 11. She wears a lot of Chucks.

I wear a 2.5 in little girls, or a 4.5 in ladies. Usually I buy little girls tennis shoes to save money, and buy a 5 in ladies and put an insole in them so they'll fit. I can find them at Nordstrom pretty easily, and Stanely Eisenman's (very expensive). I also order online, and have no trouble returning. Enjoy your tiny feet. Most people complain about having big feet.
