I Have Been Having Nausea and Stomach Pain for Approx 6 Months.

My husband had a near death experience back in mid- October and he is fine and better now. Ever since, I have been having nausea with vomiting sometimes and stomach aches daily. I have been seeing our regular physician and she said it was acid reflux due to stress. I have thrown up about 8 times in the past 6 months, when I used only throw up once a year. She put me on the prevacid daily dose. It had helped but my stomach just hurts, usually in the upper abdom. I am still feeling miserable. Could it be an ulcer or could i be lactose intolerant? Or is it just the reflux? Anyone have some sdvice? I changed my diet and also am weaning myself off diet soda's, which I would dink only and all day.

Also, I seem to get sick after I eat, and mostly at night. I have only thrown up at night. I stopped eating after 7:30 and usually by 6pm, we have had dinner.

What can I do next?

You don't mention if you have tried to get a 2nd opinion. If you EVER receive a diagnosis that is questionable or you don't see improvement after a dr. visit and treatment ... get another dr. appt. with someone else to see if they confirm the correct 1st diagnosis or find another problem.

Stomach pain is miserable. I suggest that you get a second opinion from a gastroenterologist a doctor that specializes in stomach issues.
He/She will do a more thorough workup. Also, the specialist may beable to prescribe a better medication. Prevacid is not always the best medication for everyone, there are many other medications that may be better for you. Don't let this go, you should not suffer this long. Stress can exasperate (sp) your symptoms but I do not care for doctors who brush women's complaints off as stress. Even if stress is contributing there is most likely some other physiological problems going on in your body that needs medical attention.
I hope you feel better soon.

I'm really surprised with this going on as long as it has, that you haven't been referred to a Gastroenterologist.

That would be my advice: seek a GI specialist's advice.

It could be stress - it's a really powerful force. It could be psychological. It could be physical and needing different medical attention.

Prevacid is a good Proton Pump Inhibitor, but it doesn't mean it will work well for everyone. There are many others on the market (Prilosec, Nexium, AcipHex, Kapidex, Zegerid).

Regardless, the nausea/vomiting are not common symptoms, and I think they warrant another, more specialized opinion.

Good luck.

Getting off diet soda is a definite plus. There's a great nutritional juice on the market that aids in digestion along with many other benefits for the body.
Go to www.mymangosteen.com/edlerteam and check it out for yourself.
My entire family has been drinking it daily for five years with amazing results.
It's just a fruit juice so no side effects.

Good luck.

Have you had your gallbladder checked? I had the same problem you are having and I had a doctor finally check my gallbladder. The test came back normal but the doctor had a feeling that there was still something worng with my gallbladder so he diecdied to remove it anyway. After surgery he told me that my galbladder was dead he said it looked like a raisin. So just find you a good doc that will listen to you and dont stop fighting for yourdelf until you feel better. Good Luck! God Bless!

I would suggest to my doctor he try something new, if not, I would go to a second doctor and obtain a second opinion.

I would do this asap, that way if something is really wrong you have a chance to get to the bottom of the problem sooner.

God Bless

I have those same issues. Mine is from my common bile duct after I had my gallbladder removed. It's really bad if I eat something high in fat. Try a low fat diet and I would also go see a gastro. They will be able to help you more by running some tests like an EGD.

I'm sorry you've felt this way for so long. I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion, or talk again with your doctor about other treatment options, or if tests need to be done to be sure of the cause. Nausea and vomiting can be symptoms of acid reflux. I believe there is more than one medication or treatment option for this, if the Previcid is not working. And finding ways to manage stress, like diet changes and daily exercise are also recommendations to deal with acid reflux. The acid created by this condition can do bodily damage, so I would work with a doctor to manage these symptoms. Good luck!

It sounds like your gallbladder may need to be checked. They can do an ultrasound to see if you have gallstones which cause nausea and vomiting after eating. Also, upper abdomen pain is very common with any type of gallbladder problem.

I agree with Kelly B on the gallbladder thing. But it is possible you don't have stones and it is just not functioning properly anymore. The test you ask for is a hidascan. It will check all of it and it is completely painless.

Do you take any kind of vitamins/minerals? My family and I have been taking a LIQUID suppliment (absorbs into the body quickly) which we have really noticed a difference in our health. Not only are we getting our vitamins/minerals in, but it's helped with digestion, focus and managing stress as well. And I'm sleeping better than I have in a LONG time! The cost is only about $1 per day which is much less than most products out there. Check out the website and let me know if you have any questions! http://www.shopGBG.com/fheck Good luck to you!

I have acid reflux issues, and they are definitely only when I'm laying down. One thing that could help you out slightly is to raise your bed on one side. The suggestion I had was to raise the entire bed using concrete blocks, don't raise just the mattress because it will screw up how your body is shaped when you sleep.

Look up what not to eat for acid reflux stuff. I found that certain foods really seemed to exacerbate my symptoms. Its true that you definitely need to watch what you eat, and eat nothing after 7. I would watch your fluid intake as well: drink only water or water-based drinks (Gatorade, Crystal Light, KoolAid, etc) after dinner as well. Carbonation in soda can effect acid reflux.

As for the pain in your stomach...definitely get a second opinion on that! That shouldn't an acid reflux thing. Some people suggested gall bladder, and it could be that. Or an ulcer. But if your doctor is blowing you off about this, then find another one. Good luck!

This may sound silly, but you may want to check out a chiropractor. I totally believe that the mind, body, and spirit are all connected and chiropractic adjustments help with physical and mental limitations.
