Morning sickness sucks, I know. I was sick my whole time I was pregnant with my third. My Dr presribed several things to help. B6 and a sleeping pill combined, this worked but seeing as how i had two other children i couldnt go around taking sleeping pills all day, he prescribed fenergin for when it got really bad, he told me to take flinstone vitamins instead of my prenatals, just take two of them instead of one. All of these things helped to a point but they also have some cons. hope one works for you.

I don't know if this will be helpful or not. I was SOOOOO lucky, I didn't have ANY morning sickness.

You can try the Ginger Altoids, I ususally find them at target. Candied ginger if you can toleralte it is suppose to work as well. Celestial seasonings has a Tummy Tea, not sure of caffine content, or the herbs involved (clear that with your doctor first). Ginger ale. Peppermint is suppose to help settle the stomach too.

Fennel is also good for digestion. Usually found at health food, and Italian specialty stores. It is now in season. It has very licorice taste, so if you don't like licorice, You may want to skip it.

If it is smells, just try to stay clear of areas with noxious stimuli as much as possible.

Talk to your OB about changing prenatal vitamin brands. A friend of mine went through 4 brands before she found one that didn't make her sick.

I was sick with my daughter until 22 weeks. When I was 7 weeks pregnant, it began for me - all day and night. I ended up losing a total of 13 pounds during those 22 weeks. I had to stop the prenatal vitamin - it just made me so sick. I first went of zofran, which is a medicine that they give cancer patients for nausea. It helped, but the major side effect was constipation, which got so bad for me I had to stop taking it. I then went on phenergen (also known as promethazine), which also helped, but the major side effect for that is exhaustion. You can talk to you ob about both of those and they can prescribe them, you just have to figure out which side effect you would prefer to deal with. Nothing else helped for me. Saltines, ginger, water, eating around the clock, etc.... NOTHING worked. It was the most miserable 5 months of my life. I can completely sympathize with you. Good luck :)

whatever you do, do not stop taking your prenatal vitamins.. they are for your baby's brain development, and he/she needs them. When I was pg, and had some sickness, I ate oranges and drank ginger ale for some reason it helped. Also I stopped taking my prenatal vitamins in the mornings and took them at night.. maybe that might help a little

When I was pregant with my little girl, I vomited all thourght the first and second trimester. One thing I did that helped reduce how much and how often, was I quit taking my prenatal vitamins. I took childrens flinstones instead. I know they not supposed to be as good as the prenatal vitamins but it really reduced how often I threw up. And my daughter was perfactly healthy. She was 9lbs 10oz. Her lungs were fully developed and perfact. Ask you doctor about either lower your dose of vitamins or taking fintsones. It might help.

Dear V.,
I was super nauseous for 10 long weeks (until I was about 4-5 months) and one day it just stopped. It will end!! Sucking on sour lemon drops helped and I wore those wrist bands for seasickness. The trick with those is to wear them 24/7 and only take them off to bathe or wash the bands. I took the same prenatal vitamins too. Extra B vitamins may help you. I found these lozenges in the health food store that had gnger and B-6 in them and they seemed to help. Acupunture also works. Just went I thought it wouldn't end...it did. Good luck. K.

The term "morning" sickness HA HA,I was sick morning, noon and night my entire second pregnancy something I never experienced with my first. I read that the smell of lemons was supposed to help with nausea so I tried it and it worked a little(very little). I would stand at the kitchen counter and sniff a fresh cut lemon for about 5 minutes before going to work. I had been doing this for about a week. When I got to work one day I realized I had forget to take my prenatal vitamins. I rushed to the break room to grab an apple juice butI hit the lemonade button on the vending machine instead(they where right next to each other). I took my vit with lemonade anyway finished drinking them lemonade went to my desk. Of course I knew within at least a 1/2 hour I would be making my first of many trips to the bathroom so my son could let me know I was still pregnant with him and our morning ritual of vomiting had begun. When morning break came I realized I had not been sick once that morning, by lunch I was ready to dance on my desk. The next morning came I did my lemon ritual took my vitamins of to work I went,(no lemonade), by 9:30 I was in the bathroom. The next morning I again did my lemon ritual however I took my vitamins with lemonade, no more sickness the rest of the day. The next morning I just drank the lemonade and took my vitamins no sickness. I could have made this short and sweet by just telling you try lemonade but I thought you could use the laugh I know I did when I felt like the toilet bowl and I spent more time together then my husband and I did. And remember even if nothing works, the end result is worth it. God Bless & Congratulations

I was very sick for the first trimester. The only thing that made it even a little better was to stop taking the prenatal vitamin and I also used the wrist bands. A friend of mine told me her Dr. prescribed an oral medicine to take for nausea. Unfortunately I don't know the name but I wonder if you really pressed the issue if your Dr. would prescribe something for you?

Good luck and Congratulations!

When I was expecting with my second child I had the same problem. I went to the health food store and asked them if they had anything for this problem. They do and it's called morning sickness something, just ask the person working in the health food store. It's not just for morning sickness though. When you start to feel sick take one and it is all natural so won't hurt the baby. Like I knew as soon as I woke up in the morning I was going to throw up so as soon as I opened my eyes I would take one of these pills and it really worked. If it wasn't for this I would of have to quit my job because I couldn't get out of the bathroom. I hope this helps and good luck!!!

Nausea is a good sign of hormonal changes related to a healthy pregnancy but definitely no fun to live with, especially if you are vomiting. Make sure you take your prenatal and any other vitamins with food and at a time of day when you feel the best. Eat small, frequent meals with some protein content (eggs, nuts, peanut butter, meat, whole grains, cottage cheese, yogurt, milk, etc) to keep your blood sugar stable. Look at a health food store for a "nausea gone" formula which usually includes a mint, fennel, and/or ginger. Raspberry leaf tea with lemon sipped throughout the day should help also. Usually cold liquids sit better on a nauseous stomach than warm. Try sipping ICE cold water with lemon as well. Ginger lozenges may also be helpful. Hope you find some remedies to make you more comfortable. Avoid spicy and fatty foods until you are feeling better. This too shall pass! : )

I had morninging/afternoon/evening sickness for 5 1/2 months, the only thing that helped me was plain apple sauce. The pectin in apples helps with the sick feeling that you get. I was paranoid not to have apple sauce in the house. When I would get down to like 2 single serve containers I would start freaking out on the verge of tears. Good Luck. Like one of the other responses. One day it just stopped it was like someone flipped a light switch. Again, Good Luck.

None of the advice on "eat smaller meals, drink plenty fluids, crackers, etc." worked for me. I thought morning sickness was just something you had to deal with while being pregnant, but my doctor I have now told me otherwise.
He prescribed some vitamin B6. They come in pill form and you only take half a pill a day. The first time I took it, like 12 hours later the sickness was gone and hasn't returned.
Please don't stop taking your vitamins like some others have suggested. Not without trying alternative methods first. I have had to take my prenatal vitamins at night with dinner with every pregnancy. It's just too much for a morning stomach to handle. But you do need those vitamins. The baby will take what he/she needs from you regardless of wether you replenish yourself. That's the main reason they're prescribed.
Try the B6. It's completely safe and you'll feel so much better! Don't suffer any more that you need to.

My 4th pregnancy and the morning/afternoon/evening sickness finally went away around the 17th week or so. My OB kept saying that nausea is a good sign that your preggie hormones are up to snuff (if that's any consolation?).

I never actually vomited, but there were times when I really wish that I could have (just to feel better). Mine came without warning and was particularly worse at dinner time (even moreso, the later that we ate). It made sense that nausea increased on an empty stomach so I'd have to agree that it helps to eat more frequent, smaller meals.

For me, ginger ale seemed to help, keeping the starches down (ginger snap cookies, saltines, pretzels, etc.). I was desperate for it to go away and also tried the motion-sickness wristbands (elastic bands with a small plastic button that puts pressure on your wrist/forearm). They seemed to help a bit in the day, but I couldn't wear them 24/7.

Hopefully, your morning sickness will subside shortly :)

P.S. One of the prescription prenates that I took during my second pregnancy seemed to upset my stomach. I ended up switching to a "Natures Source" prenatal vitamin from the local health food store. I have taken this for the last 3 pregnancies.

P.S.S. I know that if your sickness is really bothersome, the Dr. can prescribe a medication to ease symptoms. I'm not real keen on taking medicine during a pregnancy, but if you can't keep food down it might be something to think about.

I had pretty bad morning sickness until I also got a bad cold and couldn't even keep water down. It was right before my DR's appt so they shipped me over to the hospital to starve me and load me up on IV's. When I woke up the next morning I was perfectly fine. Never threw up again! I could just about whatever I wanted! Obviously I"m not telling you to check into the hospital, but maybe you can starve yourself and only drink water for a day and ALOT of it. You would have to wait for a day off of work so that you could relax all day. Things that helped me while I was still getting sick were ginger snaps, eating something small before getting out of bed like animal crackers....saltine crackers helped too. Make sure when you do eat, you're eating realllly slow and chewing all of your bites thoroughly. Seasickness bands helped me a little too. To go along with a previous response...i never took prenatals only flinstones and my daughter was also perfectly healthy! Good luck!
