I Need a Good Ob-gyn/birthing Center Between Baltimore and Bel Air

I live in Bel Air and work in Baltimore. My husband and I are considering moving to the White Marsh area in June. I have seen 2 different OB-GYN's and I have not found what I am looking for yet. I think I want to give birth at a birthing center but I'm having trouble finding one that isn't South of Baltimore. I want a provider who acts excited for us and understands that this is our first baby and we don't know anything. No one has told me what to expect for my upcomming appointments, no game plan, no birth plan, no options. One provider even told me they like to induce labor because it is easier for them and I'll be sick of being pregnant by the end. Maybe this is true but she never asked how I felt about it. If you no a good OB and/or birthing center I would love to hear some suggestion. HELP!
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

We used a midwife group in Baltimore City-- Kathy Slone and Associates. There are three midwives in the practice, and you see all three throughout your pregnancy so that you know whoever is on call when you go into labor. They are awesome-- kind, relaxed, and all about making the birth experience exactly what you want... I trust them completely. I had a wonderful first birth in September, and managed completely drug-free. Would not have been possible without their guidance...

Hi,

I dont know what area you're looking to have the baby at. But my OBGYN was awesome. They are an all female OBGYN and they have office at Mercy Med Center, Catonsville, and Dundalk. I see Dr. Hoffman but have seen 3/4 dr.'s at her office. They do their deliveries at Mercy Medical Center. They aren't a birthing center but its a great place to have a baby. When we went their labor and delivery rooms are huge and the part I liked the most (that others may not) is that they only allow 3 visitors at a time (1 of those being the father). Once my daughter was born it gave me a great opportunity to bond with her because I wasnt worried about entertaining tons of other people or saying no you can't come right now. Also the other thing i loved if you go to Mercy for your appts is that their Fetal Assesment is in the building too and that where your sono's are done. They also have a 4d room there as well which most places send you to advanced radiology, etc. for and alot of ppl pay extra for the 4d sono's. We had alot of different issues with our daughter and everyone to include the fetal assesment place were always up front and honest with us. At no time did we feel out of place or unwelcome. We actually asked to induce early bc of insurane reasons and my OBGYN refused. We did wind up having her early and I did have to be induced but that was only because she wasn't growing inside of me. The other thing I loved about Dr. Hoffman was that as many baby heartbeats as she hs heard in her career everytime we heard ours sge always said "isn't that the coolest thing ever?" making it feel like it was the first time she had ever heard one. They also have a website if your interested in checking them out. www.hoffmanobgyn.com It tells you their backgrounds, hours, has the paperwork you need to fill out on there, and what services they offer. I hope this help.

A friend of mine told me that Upper Chesapeake hospital, in Bel Air, has a birthing center associated with it. I don't know if it is what you are looking for but I imagine if you call them they can lead you in the right direction.

I am going the hospital route, I just feel better doing it that way in case there are any complications with me or the baby. I am going to be having my baby at Bayview in May (well, unless they change my due date next week after my ultrasound, lol). To be honest, I loved my ob/gyn office before I was pregnant, but I am not as thrilled with how they have handled the pregnancy - they tend to make me feel rushed and don't answer all my questions as I think they should in the office. I go to Johns Hopkins Community Physicians in White Marsh.

If you ever need someone in the Baltimore area to talk to who is going through pregnancy here, feel free to get in touch. I love to make new friends!

Good Morning. Have you investigated GBMC or St. Joseph's Hospital. I heard both are great. Good luck
