I Need a New Vacuum! - Ogden,UT

I love my Dyson, and I did the 20% coupon at bed bath & beyond, although I wasn't willing to wait for clearance. :) We had tried the bissel, and it just didn't cut it. For the big crumbs and cheerios, try backing over them...works great and doesn't push them around. It does work great on the hardwood. I grew up with the two vacuum mode and hated having to get both out, and storing both was a pain. I do like the idea of that stick vacuum though...I think I will have to look into that one.

I use the Dyson on my hardwood floors. Just had to throw that out there. ;)

My cleaning lady has more experience with vacuums than I do, and she says my Dyson is the best vacuum she has ever used. She raves about it! I would too, if I ever used it. :)

Costco has them - or at least they used to.

My best advice? Wait until Bed Bath & Beyond is clearancing out their 'older' models & use a 20% off coupon! :) We got a Dyson for much, much cheaper than we could've gotten it anywhere else. Other vacuums will also clearance out their older models (brand new, still in the box) and they'll let you use a coupon even if it's expired. Good luck!

I have a 7 month old who is just about to start crawling, so just last week I decided it was time to get ourselves a new vacuum! After doing lots of research I decided that I wanted a Dyson myself, since everyone who I have talked to who has one absulutely loves it! Currently I am waiting for my vacuum to arrive (should be here today!) So unfortunatly I can't tell you how well it works yet for myself, but I can tell you where you can get a REALLY nice Dyson for about $300 which is what I paid for mine!

If you go to www.dyson.com you can find the full price new dysons, but you can also find refurbished Dysons for $250-$350. The refurbished dysons are either returned models or ones that had a little quirk and then had the flakey parts replaced with new ones, and that have then gone though testing to make sure they perform just as well as a brand new dyson. So, its like getting a brand new dyson for 200-250$ cheaper! If you buy the vacuum straight from Dyson, their refurbished ones come with a 6 month warrantee (a new one comes with a 5 year warrantee). Also, it does not come with any attachments, you are just getting the basic vacuum.

I REALLY wanted a Dyson Animal with the pet attachments, so I continued to search the internet for one at a good price, and I found it on Ebay!! There is a seller on ebay (I think its ABC Vacuums or something similar) That I was able to get my Dyson Animal from, for $299 with free shipping! It came with all the attachments, as well as a 3 year warrantee (first 6 mos though dyson, and then 2.5 years thorugh ABC Vaccums) Those vacuums there are refurbished too, but SUCH A GREAT DEAL! I would reccomend checking it out! Depending on what type of Dyson you want, it could be as cheap as $250.

I know that Dyson is such a respected brand that I wont have to buy another vacuum for years and years, and I am so excited to try it out! My friend got hers and used it right after vaccuming with her other vacuum and she said that it picked up SO much stuff that her other vacuum left behind that she had to empty the canister 3 times just while doing her bedrooms! WOW

Just to make matters more confusing, I thought I'd throw another option out there. I'm always looking for a vacuum to do both hard floors and carpet, but have decided it's much easier to have 2 separate vacuums. (I too love my Dyson Animal, which has a great hard floor attachment for the hose, but the constant crumbs in the kitchen/dining room were too hard to keep up with when it came to lugging out the fullsize vacuum) A few months ago, I found the perfect cordless stick vacuum that I keep in the kitchen and I can actually keep up with the crumbs! (before they get tracked in the living room!) I bought the Eureka Ergorapido, at Costco right now for $90, which is $20 less than everywhere else. It gets awesome reviews (Amazon) and I LOVE IT! Even my 7 and 5 yr olds like to help me vacuum, and they actually do a great job; it's that easy to use. It also works awesome on throw rugs and I use it for quick cleanups on our carpet & stairs, although the Dyson rocks for deep cleaning. I know having 2 vacuums seems excessive, but check it out, you won't regret it!

Well in my experience you get what you pay for!! I have a friend who has the hoover canister and she had nothing but problems with it it finally died after 9 months. She took it to an authorized repairman and he told her to stay away from them he always is repairing them! He said that the vacuums you can buy from walmart are disposable vacs meant to last a year or so and then time to buy a new one. Good luck in your quest! I personally love my dyson.

I use our Dyson on our hardwood and it does a great job. We have had it for two years and it is just as good as new. We have a chocolate lab and picks up the hair very well. I was apprehensive to buy it at first because of the price...but I think in the long run it will be better because it will be years until I have to replace it.

I have a Dyson and dont mind it, but for the price that I paid, I am sure there are cheaper ones out there that do just as well. So I can't give you a great answer other than Dyson is alright...but not worth the hype it has received.

Vacuums that you purchase at box stores have an average of 1.5-2 years, while a Dyson should last between 5-7 years, Oreks are rated to last 7-10 years. I ended up getting a RICCAR canaster that has a 18-20 year life, it is so nice to have the tools on board and it is nice to know that I bought a product that will last. We got it at Arvada Vacuum, they have other brands that will last as long as well as Dyson models that you can test out. There are also specialty vacuums that last 18-20 years but the price more than doubles (simplicity, rainbow etc).

Have you looked at the Electrilux Canisters?? My mom had one when I was a kid (still does in fact)she wouldn't own any other vacuum!! I was not impressed with the Hoover that I bought that was supposed to be comparable to the Dyson. I have a Kirby (bought it used) that I just love I can do everything with it (hardwood, shampoo, vacuum etc)

Kenmore (Sears brand) is a good brand. My mom has had her Kenmore canister vacuum for as long as I can remember.

I haven't had great luck with vacuums either, but I will say that I didn't find the Dyson worth the money. It doesn't loose suction, which I did have a problem with the filter in my old vacuum clogging up and loosing suction - but it has some poor engineering in other ways. The front level guard is so low, you can't vacuum over crumbs, it just pushes them our in front. So things like cheerios? No way, you have to pull out the hand attachment. Also, the base is so tall that it doesn't fit under any furniture, so again, you have to use a totally different attachment to vacuum under dining room chairs, for example.

Try overstock.com They offer advice on all their models. We've found better vacuums for cheaper prices. Make sure to read the reviews...it helps. We just bought a new vacuum. It's a bagless...upright. Bissell.

I have a Kenmore canister vac from Sears and it's great. I'v had for 2 years with no issues. It is rated #1 by consumer reports. All Kenmore canisters are similar with different features.

I noticed two responses mentioned Kenmoor vacuums. I have a Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive. I love it for my carpets. It has a sensor light and HEPA filter. However, it does not work well on my hardwood floors. The floor mode (no brushes just suction) doesn't suck hard enough to pick up everything especially large things like cheerios, etc. If I turn it to the carpet mode(with the brushes going), it flips everything on the hardwood floor out the back. My old Hoover that I have had for 15 years works better on my Hardwood floor but doesn't vacuum the carpet. I wish I would have checked out the Dysons a little more. I want one vacuum to clean my carpet, tile, and hardwood.

Are you aware that the Dyson can do hardwood floors. You can turn off the rotating brush. I know they are expensive but I will never go back. I did have a canister that was a Kenmore. I loved it when it worked but it constantly had to be repaired. I did buy the service warranty from Sears and that is the only way I would by another one from them. It was very inconvenient because it would always break during the holidays and I would have to haul it to the repair center that was an hour away. The same pieces always continued to break. I believe we spent around 300.00 for it around 2003. I think my mother in law has had good luck with hers, purchased maybe 6 months to a year earlier. The model is a little different. I think mine had some upgraded features. The biggest problem is the connector piece for the hose (this is the electronic connection also.) Good luck!

My Dyson loses suction all the time. Seriously, I just had to call them again to troubleshoot over the phone (went through the same song and dance 8 weeks ago). I really feel ripped off, and I was warned by the nice people at the vacuum repair store not to buy one but I succumbed to the marketing. The folks at the vacuum store recommended I get a Panasonic, but I chose not to listen and now I'm paying for it. Take the money and invest it in a different brand and save yourself the headache.

I have had this dilemma over the past month and finally settled on the dyson ball DC 25 animal. I used the bath and beyond 20% coupon and they shipped the model I wanted to me as they didn't have it yet. The ball is more manuerverable and will get in tighter places than the other models. I had 2 friends say if you invest in a dyson, get the ball FOR SURE. Awesome on wood floors, you can see it sucking dust up near it. I like the bagless and owned eurekas and hoovers but after getting rid of my vacuums after 2 yrs max, I finally took the plunge. I bought through BED, Bath and beyond for 2 reasons: $100 or more off with the coupon and if I have any problem during the warrantee, I can take it to them and they will replace it. They have a deal with Dyson so I don't have to ship it off for service. So... I figured it was worth the investment. I don't have indoor pets but there are 4 girls in the house with a lot of hair so I needed something with major suction as there is always a lot of hair on the carpet you don't see. It is easier to clean the brush too as you can pull the entire brush out by loosening a dial. No more digging hair out of my vacuum brush every month with scissors... that was nasty. There are some people that haven't been too impressed with the dyson and love their kenmores... maybe they are great too but I am happy with the 5 yr. guarantee not to buy another vac. I liked the comment from another mom to get a little handheld for the kitchen floor. I may do that as we have crumbs under the table multiple times during the day. Dyson is heavy so the hanheld would be great for the kids to use. good luck.
