I Need Help Finding a Good Pediatric Dentist

Hello, I am a 26 year old mother of one. My daughter is 3 years old. I took her to a pediatric dentist when she was 2, and just wasn't satisfied. His office was old and dirty, and he liked that my daughter screamed so that he could take a peek in her mouth. he looked around for 30 seconds and said everything was fine, and I was on my way. Well, I am looking for something a little better, maybe a doc that doesn't have to let his patients scream to get them to open their mouths. Any suggestions for FUN pediatric dentists?

So What Happened?

I went this morning to Palmetto Smiles, and it was a wonderful experience. My daughter wasn't scared and voluntarily opened wide for the dentist. Thank you to everyone who recommended them! I don't know how to say thank you enough.

Hey L., I see you live in Columbia, but in Lexington there are some awesome pediatric dentists! Palmetto Smiles is my son's dentist and they are so great. It's all about the kids there. The waiting area has a play place, they get to play video games in the back while they are waiting. Our experience was wonderful. Good luck!

I have to say I take my daughter to Palmetto Smiles as well. As a matter of fact we are on our way to an appointment this morning.

One thing I don't like though is that they do not allow parents back to sit with the children when they are having work done. We will go in this am and she will get some grape flavored relaxing stuff they call juice but it is really thick. We'll sit in a padded room until it takes effect and she is relaxed. Once they call her back, I will go back to the waiting room and the nurse will take her to the room to get her cavities filled. My DD has very thin (and on some teeth no) enamel which makes them prone to cavities. They will take their time with her and get the job done. Once they give her a little gas, she will fall asleep while they do their work.

We see Dr Cross. He is a very nice man and is very patient with the children. My daughter actually likes him despite the fact that he is the one doing the work on her. She does not like to be put in the pappoose thing and now understands that if she keeps her hands away from her face, they won't use it.

We see him as a result of asking our friends who they use. We were given lots of suggestions but Palmetto Smiles was the closesdt to us.

I am in Lexington, and a mom of 4 soon to be 5, we have gone to Wild Smiles, and found the docs to be great but the staff to be stuck up, that is Dr. Singh. A few months ago we switched to Palmetto Smiles and really liked them alot better, they have a website if you google it. Good luck, I agree, you have a like and be comfortable with the dentist, and I would say screaming would have been a red flag too.
