I Need Help, Please

I have posted many requests on here before and have always received great advice. Now here I am again. I was wondering if anyone knew what could possibly be wrong with me. It's been about a week and a half now that I have a continuous headache every day. It does not go away unless I take Ibuprofen (not sure if I spelled it right). And I dont like to be taking meds everyday especially Ibuprofen or tylenol. Anyways I was wondering if anyone has gone through this, might this be stress from work, home, husband or can this be something else. I am stressed at work, I work full time, have a baby girl that turned 2 last month and a great husband. I have been prescribed glasses to use while at work cause of the computer, but they dont have that much prescription on them as this is what the doctor said I needed. Do you think I should go and retest my eyes or just go see a doctor? I have not been to a doctor because I dont have healthcare and have not found a low income clinic that would not charge me an arm and a leg for a consultation. Please advise and thank you so much to all for your advise.

I am going through the same thing now, I have just about decided that it must be allergies or the heat. But also like you and about to see the Dr. Good luck

Dear A.,

I don't know when you got your glasses, but it sometimes takes a few weeks to get used to new glasses. Depending on the prescription, it may require wearing them consistently to allow your eyes to "adjust" (in other words taking them on and off too frequently can defeat their benefit -- for some people.)

You SHOULD be able to go back to the prescribing eye doctor, without charge, if you are having a problem with "fit." First, call the lab that made the glasses and check to make sure that what they gave you matches what the doctor prescribed. If so, call the doctor's office and tell them that you have had a constant headache since getting your glasses (if that is the case.) Most eye doctors will want to see you to make sure that what they prescribed is correct. If the doctor thinks it is the correct prescription AND they are made correctly AND you have given them sufficient, consistent wearing time, THEN your headache may NOT be associated with new eyeglasses. In this case, you should see a doctor.

Stress headaches do not "suddenly" begin and then remain continuous. Since it has ONLY been a week, you could be experiencing allergy to something you are being exposed to (African dust is really bad in south Texas right now. Have you started using any new household or personal products: soaps, laundry detergents, perfumes, lotions, etc.? You might even have a mild case of flu.)

However, many very treatable conditions can be associated with headaches. So if your headache does not go away very soon, assume it might be a warning sign of a condition that NEEDS attention and go see a doctor. The cost of a doctor visit right now MIGHT prevent some more costly medical care, if you allow a condition to worsen while you are trying to be frugal. All too often women want to save money by sacrificing their personal care and needs -- when "investing" in your health and well-being are the MOST IMPORTANT act of love you can make for your husband and daughter! Be well.

Blessings,
K.

Headaches can be caused by stress, especially if you are possibly clenching your teeth. How long have you had your glasses? If it has only been a short time, maybe about the length of time that you have had headaches, I would go back to the eye doctor and see if things are okay with your glasses. They may be off just a touch or something and this could absolutely cause headaches.

I am not sure where you live, but in the Austin area the molds have been high for weeks now. I get headaches and fatigue when they are high. Of course it is important to look at all the possibilities and really notice when they are better or worse. Keeping a log helps.

A few years ago I had the same thing going on. The culprit? Diet soda. Come to find out... I developed an allergy to aspartame. As of today I have to be very careful what I eat or drink and make sure there are no fake sugars in it. A can of Diet Coke will give me a headache for about 2-3 days. Heck, a stick of gum (because all gum has aspartame) will give me a headache for the rest of the day. I did go to the doctor before I knew what was wrong and they took all sorts of test, only to come back and tell me I was perfect and suggested whatever was causing it could be allergy related and told me to start a food diary and when I got a headache to mark it down on that day... thats how I figured out it was aspartame. Good luck!

If you get frequent headaches, you might have a chiropractor check you out. One cured mine... Two other immediate fixes-- drink lots ofcwater and put a covered ice pack at the base of your neck for 20 min on, 20 off, then 20 back on. Lavendar oil rubbed into temples works too.

I had headaches all the time and was tired too when my oldest was around 1 to 2 years of age. I had MRI's and scans done and it ended up being my thyroid. Once one was taken out I felt much better. Might be something to check out.

Its all related to stress. I was going through those headaches myself a couple of months ago. My husband was working out of town, I found myself taking care of everthing from kids to car problems while he was gone. I worked a full time job as well. Every day I come home I had to take at least one hour to just rest because I had these real bad headaches. I hated also taking anything for them, but it was so bad that I had no choice. It was all related to stress. Its been a month he stopped working out of town and everything seems to be back to normal. My headaches are gone. I also thought I had vision problems my eyes would hurt bad. I went in for an eye exam and well my perscription was about the same since 6 years ago. The only thing I can tell you is do try to get some time to yourself. We need that now and then. Alos exercising helps with the stress. Hope this helps some.

Hey,

I am not sure if this will help or not but have you thought about it being allergies. I moved here about 2 years ago and every time the mold count is high i get the same thing. You are lucky that the meds give you relief because they don't at times for me. I did go to the doc and he sent me to an allergist.
I suppose I cannot be certain but a half benadryl will sometimes kick it.
Hope you feel better soon.

Headaches can be a symptom of many things including stress so it's hard to say but I am wondering, are the glasses new? When my prescription changes I do get headaches for a few days (if I've worn my glasses a lot) until I get used to the new prescription. If so, perhaps this weekend when you're not working see if the headaches subside when not wearing your glasses.

Good luck,
K.

Hi A.,
So sorry you are having such terrible head aches. I went throug that years ago- miserable- It could be totally stress related- lack of quality sleep or a combination of other stress related factors. It could also be allergy related- this time of year is really bad for allergies especialy in Texas- find a good stress relief activity- take a walk before bedtime- exercise if possible (finding time is a challenge) watch for what you are eating in relationship to when the headach's first begin- etc- I feel sure that when the weather changes the head aches will disappear.......it could also be an allergic reaction to household cleaners- etc....... If you do not get some relief when the weather changes I would try to consult another physician.
Daycare is terribly expensive- so you might want to look at some "work at home" opportunities in the near future. PM me and I can recommend some.
good luck and blessings

You didn't specify whether your headaches are felt in the front area of your head or the back along your neck/shoulder areas. What I'd do is first, next time you have a headache like that, cup your hand around the back of your neck & squeeze the areas that feel the pressure or tension & if the pain is relieved then you probably have a tension headache which are basically knotted up muscle type areas in your neck & shoulders that result from the tension. I get those & my hubby gets migranes so we understand about headaches. Tension headaches can be caused by a number of things, straining to look at the computer...if the computer isn't eye level try raising it up, put a book or something under the screen & see if that helps. Also, straining to p/u something or, like me, having to bend over to stock shelves at work always gave me tension headaches. Also the lighting can cause headaches. Look around at the lighting, is it the usual 'office' lighting w/the flourescent type long light fixtures...they can pulsate causing headaches or low lighting or a glare can cause headaches. Also, sleeping wrong, laying on your side w/a pillow under you or leaning on your elbow to watch tv (like laying on the bed or sofa) or not eating enough or eating late can cause headaches. Try sleeping on a contoured pillow, those strange curvy looking pillows. They have support for your neck. Perhaps the mattress you sleep on is helping to cause headaches. What I'd do is just start thinking about what you do everyday that may cause headaches & change something or elimiate it all together if possible to see if that's the cause. I also use Mentholatum Deep Heating Rub (similar to Icy Hot) & rub on my neck & shoulders or use a heating pad or neck massager (horseshoe shaped pillow that vibrates). Food dyes (like in Kool-Aid or other drinks or foods) can cause headaches or artificial sweetners like someone else suggested CAN cause headaches. I've had to stop drinking anything red colored b/c it started giving me bad headaches. Eyeglasses CAN cause me to have headaches that's why I prefer contacts but sometimes those just don't wk for people & they have to wear glasses so that might be a cause for you. Have you gotten the anti-glare on your glasses? It really helped me w/mine when I wear them. If it doesn't come from the neck/shoulder area then you may need to do some research on types of headaches & see which closely matches yours & then you'll know what you can do to alleviate it. Hope these suggestions help. Good luck!!

I did not see anyone mention your blood pressure. You can go and have it checked at the grocery store or drug store. If your blood pressure is high or higher than your normal, it could cause headaches. They probably go away when you take ibuprofen because it tends to thin your blood a bit. Check it out quickly. It could cause a stroke and Yes, young people can have a stroke. Please go see someone. CB

I agree it could be your glasses or it could be allergies, but few people think of food additives! In particular, artificial sweeteners! Are you drinking diet soda or tea or coffee with Equal, or sweet and low? ( Aspartame and Saccharine) My friend kept telling me to get rid of the equal in my coffee ( I suffered from headaches daily)and when i finally listened to her, my headaches went away! Now I seldom get a headache! If you must have a sweetener, try "Stevia" It's certainly worth a try if you are getting headaches everyday! I wish you luck!

I am with Tiffany on the water. Make sure you drink a lot of it every day. Dehydration is a common cause of headaches.

One thing to seek medical attention for though, is if you, or anyone, wakes up in the morning with headache. If you are hydrated and got enough rest, one should never wake up in the morning with a headache. Could be a sign of a problem.

Do you only wear your glasses are work? If so, the headaches could be from your eyes adjusting to not wearing the glasses other times. Even though the prescription is not strong, going from glasses to no glasses could put just enough strain on your eyes to cause headaches. Try wearing your glasses all day for a few days and see how the headaches are then.

If this happened after your new glasses, the prescription for the new lens could be wrong. This happened to my husband and when he went back to the eye doctor, the doctor in error wrote the prescription wrong and they corrected the problem at no cost to him.

Try working without your new glasses, do you still have the headaces.

By the way there are doctors now at some of the grocery stores in the larger cities. We live in a small town but we do have urgent care that charge $50 per visit. I have an employee who does have insurance but uses the urgent care because of her high deductable and it is cheaper than other doctors. But there are free clients in each county and they are also good, they charge based on your salary.
My daughter does not have insurance and recently she needed to go to her doctor and she told the doctor she was unemployed and no insurance and the doctor reduced the fee and if more needed to be done, doctor would make payment arrangement.
Sorry you are having this problem and good luck.

I have had continuous headaches in the past. It was often allergy related. What helped me was making sure that I had adequate amount of water intake each day (about 5 16oz bottles of water), adequate rest (7hrs nightly minimum), Well-balanced regular meals- especially breakfast, occasional allergy meds. I also tried to manage stress by setting aside time for prayer and devotion each day. Hope this helps. Be cautious with Ibubrofen use. Alternate w/ tylenol.

A week and a half is too long.. Are you vomiting? Can you move your head up and down slowly like you are nodding "yes". Are you sensitive to light, sound, odors? Keep a record of all of this.

It could be stress, exhaustion, it could be that you are beginning to have migraines, could be the eyes, or an illness. You have been given great advice. Try them till you can get an appt. I have migraines and there are many things that can trigger them. I have also had spinal meningitis that at first I thought was just a migraine. I waited 3 days till I just could not take the pain any longer. I learned my lesson not to assume or think I can just take care of it on my own.

Please figure out a way to see a Doctor. Your health is very important. You need to be healthy to be able to care for your child.

My first thought, especially since it's mid-summer, is 'How much water are you drinking?' One of the symptoms of dehydration is headache. I know as a mom it's easy to forget about yourself. I'm praying your problem is that simple!

If water doesn't fix it, look at diet- how much processed food do you eat? Chemical sweeteners Splenda, Equal, etc. (use honey instead, local is better try it in coffee) Hot dogs, prepackaged lunch meat and these are just a few!

If you get worse, go to the doc ASAP.

Best wishes!

I was in a similar situation. I went to the doctor and found out I had high blood pressure. I had never had this condition before. I started taking medication about 2 weeks ago and have not had a headache since. I would suggest testing your blood pressure at HEB,Walmart,Walgreens or any place that has one of those free machines.

I can relate. I've gone through this too. Often it is due to either my back or neck needing a chiropractic adjustment , dehydration, or alergies. Sometimes a combination. I recomend drinking way more water than seems normal. If this doesn't help try acupunctur and or chiropractic care. Maybe even a massage, it could be tension . Hope u feel better soon.

I have headaches almost everyday as well and went to the doctor. Mine turned out to be related to many things. Stress was the # 1 culprit along with caffeine, diet sodas, allergies and not sleeping well. Along with the headaches came just overall body ache. I know this may cost some money but not as much as going to the doctor and having test run. My doctor told me to go and have a good massage so I did. I didn't have a headache or body ache for almost 2 months. I had just a good soothing swedish massage, not one of those painful sports ones. The headaches are back and I have made another appointment. I did 1 1/2 hours and it cost me $90 but you can get an hour or 1/2 hour. I would really have at least an hour and enjoy the massage and peace and quiet. You have a lot on your plate. Treat yourself and if that doesn't help then consider seeing a doctor just to make sure nothing is wrong. You need to relax. Good Luck to you.

My husband had continuous headaches that the doctors could find no cause for. Then he started talking to a counselor and realized it was his stressful job. He felt like he was not able to do the job the way he thought was best. So he quit his job and now, no headaches for over a year.

If any of these other suggestions do not work, go to your clergy person and request a counseling session or an inexpensive referral. You may be fighting against yourself with all you have on your plate right now and your body may be revolting in the form of headaches.
