I am having a big surprise party for my husbands 40th birthday? We are having a DJ and Casino at the party. I am looking for some unique decorating ideals for a 40th birthday. I'm also trying to figure out what I can do with his photos besides just blowing them up. Also has anyone done a unique cake for a 40th birthday? Any creative ideals would be great.

What can I do next?

I just did a 40th birthday cake for my sister. It was very easy and fun to do, and everyone loved it. Here is a link to it. If you need to sign in pm me and let me know I will get you my password. Also there are tons of other really cute cakes at www.cakecentral.com besides mine.

Hi M., I have an idea for the pictures. Last year at my aunts 75th b-day they made a colloge of her pic. copied them on to 11x14 paper, front & back then coverd them with clear contact paper or laminated them & made placemates for our brunch. You may not be having dinner but it's just a thought. Also for the theme, it's not unique but the era of his senior year usually is fun. Have everyone come dressed for the 70's.
Good Luck

You could have a poker table with cards and chips for the cake. Or dice. The creative cake doesn't necessarily have to be large enough to serve every one. You can use that to blow out candles etc.. and have a sheet cake to serve the guests. There are some really cute ideas on www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com Have fun!!

M., you could have someone make one of those DVD's to music with his photos. Or, you could make a scrapbook album for him....you can do them easily now with the quick kits. Use some of the titles below. Good luck!

I did a photo montage on poster boards from the time he was born til recent and hung the poster boards up. It was great to get photos from his sisters, mom and aunts etc...Pics he hadn't seen in ages.

What about putting pictures of him on the poker chips or on the back of a deck of cards? I'm sure a sign printing company has access to that type of printing option.

For my mom's surprise 60th, we did a country western theme, but we gave cd's of country music with her photo on the cover to the guests.

If you're in McKinney, there is a cake shop called The Cake Stand that does more gourmet, creative cakes. They can give you some great suggestions other than just putting a picture on a sheet cake.

You could do a picture on one side and type up a "story" to go on the other side...you know..funny ones to remind him of the past 40 years. It would be fun for him to read and your guest! Just a thought!

A theme with the 'year you were born' do a 60's/70's party everyone in costume or better yet...some of his old clothes. Get teh info of how much things cost or the hot new tech item etc...you can even make fun games where you display some items that were of that year and have people turn in their guess of how much it cost and at the end give great cheesey prizes for the winners. I know the slide show is typical but i love it. It can continue to play and not really interrupt the evening. Have fun.
