If you have to paint the cabinets and can't just refinish - I ditto the white. But I like bright white, not eggshell or creamy. It always looks just a little dirty to me - LOL!
With a plain pallet though, I would go nuts with my drawer pulls and knob and get all sorts of fun glass, ceramic and metal ones and mix em up.
Try hobby lobby - they have a great selection!

First the cabinets. How about a creamy white?
Depending on the type of floor in the living room, I'd do something neutral like a taupe/beige carpet OR a darker hardwood floor. Sounds like fun - enjoy!

white or periwinkle (Soft) blue or dark contrasting blue/green for the kitchen
with the cedar stay away from red/orange colors best to go with the same type of color overall.

that kind of yellow will look good with either a dark wood tone or a white just depends on the final look you want. A white might make it more cheery country feeling and a dark more warm & modern

for the living room don't forget about your furniture colors--you need to think about that as well.

What kind of flooring do you mean?
Hardwood flooring?
or, Carpet?
or, Tile?
or, natural stone?
or, Laminates?
or, Karndean type products? Which are good quality and used in both home and commercial applications.
This is what it looks like:

For the cabinets:
I would go with a wood.
Or, wood with glass insets/fronts

ULTIMATELY, you need to decide on the style of decor you like.
Modern or traditional.
Contemporary or country etc.
Then, THAT will determine, your color applications and where.

Take some pics of your space and upload them to HGTV's website. They have a spot where people from all over the country can give you advice. Good luck!

Oooh, I love these questions! You have really received alot of great advice.

When you said cedar panels, I immediately thought of slate tile flooring. This would bring out the cedar tones, yet it is dark enough to give the contrast to the room.

I also second the cabinet color of a creamy white. Use oil-bronze hardware on the cabinet. Let us know how it turns out!

I would think that an ebony stained hardwood floors would look lovely with cedar. Or. even multi-tone wood similar to this Granary Oak or Distressed Oak:

Perhaps I would do one accent wall the yellow and bring in the yellow throw accent pieces such as pillows/art/flowers/drapes. But to offset the dark, light walls and cabinets would be beautiful... like a soft dove gray, Benjamin Moore's 790E-2 Gentle Rain or Sherwin William's rice grain, and ultra white on the molding.

go dark on the living room floor to contrast with the cedar.

White or creamy white for the cabinets/trim. Please be sure the yellow is not too intense for the size of the kitchen!
