I Need Some Good Advice on Diapers...

My son is 15 months old and has worn pampers since the day he was born. He wakes up soaking wet every morning. We use the Pampers Baby Dry, and they keep him dry during the day, but by the time he wakes up in the morning he's a soggy wet mess. It's so gross, and I'm washing his sheets EVERYDAY. He weighs 30 pounds and is in a size 5 in pampers. Can anyone suggest a different diaper? He is still too young for the Goodnite Pull-ups(or at least I thought so), so I just don't know where to go from here. Can anyone suggest a overnight diaper? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I have 2 daughters (both are grown now) when they were babies one of them wore Pampers and one wore Huggies. Pampers worked great on one, didnt fit the other. The same with Huggies, it may be the same with you, the diapers just dont fit every child the same
good Luck

Hi H.,
I had the same problem with my daughter. I used Luvs. Believe it or not they really worked. You may also want to try a diaper and then a pull-up over top. And maybe limit the amount of liquid before bed.
Hope this helps.

you could try going up a size, generally it helps but depending on babies body shape the diaper might leak because you can't get it tight enough, and at 30 lbs he would probally fit in the good nights, there is no such thing as to young if it fits and works, they make pull up diapers for infants now anyways right....

my son is 32 pounds & wears a size 6 pampers cruiser. at night we use a size 7 pampers cruiser & put a pull up over it.

you might be okay with just a size bigger in the pampers though.

also, up until he grew out of them, we used huggies overnights. they only go up to size 6, but i think that would be fine for your son if he's 30lbs. they were the BEST at solving the exact same problem you're having. if they made a 7, we'd still use them.

also, cut down on fluids a few hours before bed. i give our son his last full sippy cup of milk by 5pm. he then has 1/2 cup of water with dinner (around 6:30) & his pjs are usually on (along with night diaper) by 7:45/8:00. we have a little routine where after we brush his teeth for the night he is allowed 3 little sips of water from a dixie cup in the bathroom. it quenches his thirst without filling him with too much fluid.

also, if you sign up on websites, a lot of companies (proctor & gamble) will send you coupons in the mail or email for diapers.

good luck!! :)

I used Huggies Overnights for my daughter. She was in cloth during the day, but I never had any trouble at all with leaking at night with the Huggies Overnights. They seem to be more absorbant than the regular disposables (at least all the brands we tried). They make them up through size 5 (at least I never saw a size 6).

Have you tried Luvs? They work really good. And, they are alittle cheaper. Also, you may want to talk to your pediatrician, mine suggested once they use a cup, I could set a time for last calls for drinks. I do it 1 hr before bed.
Hope this helps!

Hi! I had this problem for the few years that my daughter was in diapers. There was nothing that helped her, not even the pull-ups. The best thing to do is to try to limit the fluid intake that he has before he goes to bed. Im not saying dont give him anything to drink, just try to cut back some. Does he go to bed with a bottle? That might be a problem as well. You can also try changing him before you go to bed, because remember durring the day he is active and changed more frequently, and I'm sure that he sleeps at least 12 hours at night, if not more. Good luck to you. I hope that this helped some.

Hi H.!

I also use Pampers Baby Dry during the day. However, at night, I use Huggies Night Time Pull-Ups. They have extra absorbancy. He hardly ever leaks. I've been using those since he was a 13 months old.

I still call it a diaper, just his "night-night" diaper. So he never really cared about it being different than his day diaper. Also, weight wise, your son should be fine in a pull-up diaper. He's definitely not too young.

Good luck!

HUGGIES!! I love Huggies they have worked for both my boys and my oldest was a peeier...They make a overnight also...I would switch him up a size also....Usually when kids start peeing through it means their diapers are too small. At least that's been my expierence...My oldest was also a big dude...By 2 he was 40lbs....we had him in pull ups way before potty training time and he potty trained in overnights for big kids.....if you need any advice you can e-mail me!!!

I was having this same problem out of my 9 month old daughter, only it started when she was around 4 months old. She peed quite a bit in utero so I had alot of amniotic fluid so it didn't surprise me much when she peed alot when she was born. I started using Huggies overnights diapers when she was 4 months old and have not had a single wet bed when she wakes up since. They are AMAZING! I would definitely recommend getting these!

Hope that helps and good luck!

there are two things I would suggest. i use a diaper doubler at night for my son (you can buy them at toysrus) and I also switched to Huggies SUPREME. NOT regular huggies, they have to be supreme. They work great and I haven't had anymore night time problems. I don't know if he is too small for pullups, however, they are not nearly as absorbant as diapers.
Good Luck!

I've had this same problem with my almost 2 year old off and on since she was this age. Sometimes I think they just don't make diapers that will absorb as much as she pees at night. Some suggestions I have for you are to first monitor how much he drinks right before bed. I noticed that the more my daughter would drink right before bed, the more I had this problem. I had to start cutting her off at a certain point during the evening. This helped a ton. Also, they make what are called diaper doublers. I've seen them in CA; not sure if they have them out here, but they are like giant maxi-pad looking things that you put inside their diaper to help absorb more. If you can find those, great. If not, try putting 2 diapers on him at night. This sometimes help catch it when the first one is full. Goodluck with it all. I understand it's no fun to wake up to a baby who is drenched in their own pee.

Hi H.,
I had the exact same problem with my son and spent a small fortune trying to find a diaper that would hold 12 hours worth of night-time!

DIAPER DOUBLERS

that's the answer...they look like sanitary napkins, but are ultra absorbant. stick them in the diaper and your mornings of washing sheets are behind you! :) they're like $3 for a pack of maybe 30. they come in a blue package. i've only found them at babies r us...
Good luck!

I also suggest what others have said about using a doubler, and limiting drinks possibly after dinner or before bed. Mine both wet heavily at night, and while we use cloth diapers, I would just put an extra doubler (cloth) at night and I wouldn't have wet sheets. Also, even if you use sposie's, you could go to the store (any store, baby supply store or target) and get a pack of plastic pants (Gerber or other brand) and just put one of those over the diaper. It will prevent wicking onto their clothes or sheets without wasting another sposie. It isn't difficult to wash, just throw it in with regular clothes or toss it into the bathroom and rinse it next time you take a shower.
