My little guy over the weekend was urinating alot more than usual, but I didn't notice an increased intake of fluids. He had a couple small accidents where he didn't make it on time to the potty. He never has this problem. He will go potty and then no more than 45 min later go again. It's got me a little concerned. Anyone else ever had this problem?
It sounds like the beginnings of one. I would try giving him more water and getting him to drink a lot of cranberry juice. This will help clear the UTI out of his system. Good luck!

My oldest son has had UTI's since he was 2 and this does not really sound like a UTI. It sounds like maybe the very early start of one but the classic symptoms would be blood in the urine, painful urination and if anything, holding the urine because it hurts to pass it. So, I think that this is probably a phase and will pass, but it never hurts to get it checked out. Its really easy to get a test done and better safe than sorry, but typically boys don't get bladder infections, its more of a girl thing. My youngest still does this peeing thing where he will go every 20 minutes and then dribble out a few drops. I just ignore it. He is young and has discovered the bathroom and how all the plumbing works, so my opinion is he is just testing it out both his body and the bathroom plumbing... lots of water gets used at our house...Hopefully its just a phase and it passes quickly, that has been the case with all but one of my 4 sons. Only 1 has had problems with his bladder but like I said its rare and he was a premie but it still never hurts to check it out.
I went through this with my daughter a few months ago. I didn't think it was a UTI because she never complained of it hurting. She also still made it through the night without going.
My advice is take him to the pediatrician! I waited, I am a mom who avoids doctors as much as possible. It finally got to be too much when she was going every 15 minutes or so. I took her in and that is what it was. My ped said some kids go and then stop going because it hurts, that is one reason they go so often. I though if it hurt she would hold it in and avoid going, I was wrong. I felt horrible that I didn't take her in right away to be checked. Learn from my mistake.
Anytime I think my almost 3 year old may have a UTI, I give her cranberry juice or a cran mixture for a couple of days. If it seems to strong i will also put water in it.
although I really don't want to deter you from seeing your ped my son did the same thing where he was constantly going and going and going. We watched him for a few days and it totally faded out and he returned to normal. We did check him with my husbands meter since he is a diabetic it raised concern but after his sugar levels were fine I calmed down and we just watched him. I think they are learning how to pinch it off and dont empty the bladder fully etc. But if you do notice something else or if he cries that it hurts definitely take him in. Id give it another day.
Go to the doctor and have it checked out and ask them to check his blood sugar levels, too!

Could be a UTI. Worst case scenario- diabetes. Have the little guy checked for your own peace of mind!
Could it just be a love for going potty? I have two little guys, and they both have gone through a stage like that when they can finally be independent in the bathroom. I'd wait and see what happens before panicking. Going potty is just really fun once you get the hang of it. GL!

The chances of boys getting UTI's in pretty unlikely because of the plumbing... I do thing you should speak to your pediatrician SOON about this as it may be a sympton of something else. Good Luck!
My daughter has done the same thing. I also wonder if she has a UTI, but then after a day or two it usually goes back to normal. If it hurts when he urinates or he has pain in his abdomen or back then I would for sure take him to the dr.
It is not as common for little boys to have UTIs. I think he is just really proud of himself for overcoming the big challenge. I would just go with it for right now.
Unless he is complaining of pain or you notice that his urine is really dark and he isn't producing very much urine it is probably not an infection. It's possible that he is stopping midstream because he doesn't want to take the time to finish or he is getting really involved in what he is doing and forgets he has to go potty...extremely common for a 2 1/2 year old.
You can have him tested very easily with your Pediatrician, in a matter of minutes.
HOWEVER, my son went through this quirky thing where he wasn't emptying his bladder fully (being in a hurry and playing) and was going constantly. I freaked as he had reflux in his kidneys at birth (outgrowing it now) and I took him twice! He was fine, No UTI. I am hearing now it is very normal thing for boys to rush the peeing process and going a lot more since they didn't finish peeing the first time they went in. He would go to bed, pee before bed then get up maybe three times in a matter of an hour to pee, I would stand outside the door to see and something did come out each time, not much but it did.
What helped is me just kind of ignoring it, it at first was something that he was getting attention from as I was a little freaked, he would pee, twenty minutes to half hour later did it again....even his teacher mentioned the frequent visits to the potty. Sometimes he rushed in and barely dribbled any urine out but I think so much has to do with age and the feeling of needing to pee and recognizing it now.
I let it go, ignored it after confirmation no UTI and the behavior stopped in a few weeks. I don't know if it is a "boy" thing but several moms I know say at this age their boys did this too, so who knows.
Get him a test and make sure, however UTI's in boys are not that common and once you rule it out, just set a timer for him to go and see if you can convince him not to rush, otherwise ignore it as it will pass as a phase.
