I've uploaded my digital images, and now it's time that i back them up, I happen to have Cd's not a flashdrive or scan disk. What I need to know is, do i want to save them as orginials or as Jpegs?? If i open the cd later to retrieve the pictures what will allow me to print new replacement copies.

hope that makes sense,tthanks!!

What can I do next?

Which is jpeg.

Eventually, I would highly suggest, that you get an "external hard drive"... to back up everything on your computer.
In case it ever crashes.

I assume, from the sound of it, you have a PC and not a MAC?

The way you save photos... is about the image file format and size.
Once you open the file, it is an "original" photo. Digitally.
It is just being saved.... on the computer in a format which is per megabytes or bits or bytes and pixel data and the compression of the file etc.
Either way, it can be printed.

You should save them as a .jpg. If you were to get a new computer down the road, your computer may not have the software to open the camera image. If the new computer's OS is not compatible with the camera software, you will still have photos.

In what format are they now? When I transfer pictures from my camera (or any other source) to my computer, they come over in JPEG. Saving your images as JPEG will make it easy to print or to use the images in other programs.

Save as jpg

Also, another thing to consider is uploading them to a photo printing service. The pictures will be online and you can then retrieve them whenever you want. I use ritzpix.com I upload my pictures, then print the ones I want (they have .06 prints on Tuesdays and Wednesday (3x5)

I've had pictures stored on their site for years.

I save almost everything as jpg and have no problems pulling them up from the CD and printing them. I also use www.photobucket.com as an online photo storage.
