Ladies... We need your creativity! We have a VERY smart girly-girl who's about to turn 9. Any birthday party ideas? She wants an all girl party but beyond that, we're unsure! She doesn't want, skating, bowling or gymnastics...She wants something new! Thanks for your help!
As always, you really came up with some GREAT ideas! She really likes the Spa Theme AND Diva/Rock Star Theme so she's asked us to have it at home, incorporarting MANY of your ideas into one party! We're having having a pro come in & help with nails and hair, some parents do facials & dress up then culminating the evening with a Karaoke performance and photo shoot! THANK YOU for your help! I've seen a few girls do a spa theme with all girls. They do the mask, cucumbers on the eyes, etc. Get make-up, nails done... That might be fun.
I asked my almost 10 year old and she suggested a place called Libby Lu where the little girls get all made up. She also suggested that if you wanted to do a sleepover, they could create their own fashion show.

A few we did that the kids loved:
Sleepover at an inexpensive hotel that has breakfast included. I decorated the windows and mirrors with window markers "Happy Birthday...", "Girls Night", "Makeover Central", etc. I brought lots of nail polish (and all the related supplies), makeup, rubberbands (braided hair). Ordered pizza to the room. Had microwave popcorn. Their goodie bags were manicure stuff, etc. (from the dollar store). The hotel also had an indoor pool. Find out if the rooms have vcr/dvd players so you can bring movies for late night (or you can order an on-demand movie). It was a great time. My daughter invited about 8-9 kids so we had two adjoining rooms with another mom to sleep in the other room.
Indoor swim party at a water park in Gwinnett County (Bethesda Park Aquatic Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville 30044, ###-###-####). I didn't reserve the party room (too expensive). Just had a couple of my friends help out with my husband and I. We brought snacks and a cookie cake to have during the 15 minute breaks at the end of each hour. The cost is great: $4/child (up to 10 yo) and $5/adult! We went for a few hours and the kids didn't want to leave. It's an awesome indoor water park. The kids loved it!
Scavenger hunt at the mall. There are two teams (4 or five girls each) and each has a list of items they need to purchase (ie, something red, leopard print, peace sign, etc.). The key is that each team has a mall gift card for $20 and they need to budget in order to be able to buy as much as possible. They are only allowed to purchase one (or two, your rules) items per store. They need to keep receipts. The goal is to purchase the most items by the deadline time (give them an 1-1.5 hours). They need to meet at place in the food court by a certain time. That is where you determine the winning team and where you have the cake. The winners get to divvy up the items purchased and each kid gets a Claire's gift card/goodie bag. This could end up being an inexpensive party compared to others.
Scavenger hunt in your neighborhood. This requires some research for safety purposes...I went through the entire neighborhood directory to create the list of addresses they were permitted to go to. Each team gets a different list of houses/addresses (we have 200 homes in our n'hood, not sure how big yours is). Each team got a bag and a list of about 25 items (ie, q-tip, hershey's kiss, rubber band, etc.). They had 1-1.5 hours to return to the party house. The team with the most items won. The winning team got a small prize (so as not to upset the winners too much). Everyone got cake and goodie bags. Your daughter will love coming up with the list of items for the scavenger hunt.

We had a pajama party undernight for my daughter's 9th birthday. We had it from 6-9 pm on a Saturday night. The girls wore their pajamas and brought their sleeping bags. After the girls arrived each one decorated a men's t-shirt with fabric markers to make a night shirt. I put some decor on ahead of time (i.e. Katie's 9th birthday party, and each kid's name). We then proceded to play all sorts of sleep-over games like musical sleeping bags, etc. It was all the fun of the sleepover without sleeping over.
They could have a scrapbook making party. You can get small paper bound scrapbooks from either Creative Memories or Michaels, have the adhesive, stickers, etc set out, then have the girls all bring photos with them. To add to it, you could have a digital camera and photo printer handy, and they could even include photos from the party itself.
How about a dress up party where you give all the girls mini makeovers ( do their hair and makeup) and provide dress up clothes. Then let them either do a fashion show complete with a red carpet run way or let them do karaoke (think American Idol wanna-be). You could even recruit a few of the parents to be the judges. Have fun.

When my daughter turned 9 last June - I was looking for something different as well. There is a cute little store in Alpharetta called "The Bead Bug". We had her party there. The girls made their own necklaces (choker type that they strung with beads all around and a charm in the middle) and matching bracelets. We brought a cake and drinks to the store. It was super reasonable. I want to say around $10/girl. It was a great party and we received so much positive feedback from the girls and parents afterwards. Also, my daughter LOVES her necklace (they have tons of charms and beads to choose from) and still wears it to this day!!

American Girl Boutique and Bistro at NorthPoint Mall... Over the top for us Girly Girls I promise!!!
How about a pottery place where you can paint a figurine? Or a tea party. There are some places that provide the dress up clothes with the location. Or kids karaoke. The Singin Bean in downtown Lawrenceville does karaoke and tea parties.
Try grabbing one of those free magazines for the Atlanta area that lists things to do with the kids. they usually are out at hair cut places, grocery stores, gymnastics, etc.
Check out www.sweetandsassy.com. They do parties for girls and I think they are pretty amazing. There is a new sweet and sassy at the Avenue Forsyth and I see their limo cruising around often. They have other locations too.
A lot of women have the hobby of making costume jewelry. You could have one of these ladies come with simple pieces and help each girl string their own beautiful bracelet!
Does she have an American Girl doll? They throw really great parties at the American Girl doll store at Northpoint Mall.
Hey L. - I'm not sure where you are located but there is a fun place called Princess Party's in Douglassville. There you can plan from an assortment of girly-girl themes (spa, etc).
