For my son's second birthday, we are doing a curious george theme. what are some good items you have gotten in favor bags at birthday party for young kids? I have a couple ideas but I feel like I always end up with "chotchkies" that my son isn't really interested in. I am appreciative that parents try but I would like to do something reasonably priced that people really enjoy. Ther eare really only about 5 kids at the party with everyone else being parents or friends. Any ideas would help! Oh, the party is in December....
how about a barrel of monkeys? if your only doing 5 kids it wouldn't be a huge amount cost wise and its something they can play with. great for eye hand coordination.
Another idea would be buy mini notebooks, and find some fun monkey type paper at Michael's or somewhere, cut and cover the front of the notepad. You can also add a glue on item for fun. Toss in some crayons, and monkey stickers.
The dollar area in the front of Target usually has some great little board books, crayons, coloring books, ect. I got a bunch of stuff there for my daughters favor bags.
LOVE Sheri's idea! A barrel of monkeys is perfect! I am like you and would rather spend a little more on a substantial gift then the same amount of a bag full of little "throw outs" sounds mean but those things don't even make it into my house they go in the garbage before we come in - YIKES, bad I know - but my kids don't need it!
I go to five below and get a bigger item - my kids are spring b-days so this year we did child size cooking utensils/cookie cutters for my DD's cooking party along with little aprons and for my son we did beach towels and water shooters for his amusement park party. $5 store is great for party favors the kids will actually use. Today I picked up several items from the Target $1 bins at the front. They have small books which are $1 each--today I got some Mickey Mouse books--the stories inside were good and I really like having tiny books that I can take along when we leave the house. They also had tons of Slinky Jrs and lots of stickers, sticker books, etc, and character themed socks. My nephew's 3rd b-day party is Sunday, and my son will be giving him several of these items for his personal gift to his cousin.
Most of the cheap little toys that I've seen in party favor bags look to be choking hazards, and are usually broken by the time we get home. I think these Target items would be a bit more worthwhile. (I don't think that the favors really HAVE to match the theme of the party, but I did like the barrel of monkeys idea as well.)
