Hi all -

I live in Rumford, RI and my husband is a stay at home dad this summer. Our daughter is 14 months old and wants to always be on the "go-go-go".

They are both getting tired of their usual activites - our in the house, visiting family, going to the grocery store, playing on the swingset outside. Does anyone have ideas of things they can do together (reasonbly prices - better if they are free) while I am at work. I looked into one of the kids gyms - but with only one income right now we can't do that - and I don't see anything listed on my local library website for summer programs. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks all! Stay cool!

What can I do next?

Give hubby a list of all the playgrounds withing 20 minutes of your house. Make it a challenge for him to see if he can get to them in less time than google suggests:)

The RI Mall is great for kids to just run and run in. (no one there!)They have the glass elevator to ride up and down in too.

Warwick Showcase does Kidtoons on the weekends. G rated films that are 3.50 to attend, under 3 years is FREE.

Check your local bookstores for storytimes. Those are always "free" and she is 14 mo. so you could get out of there keeping it that way!

All those gyms and music class type things usually offere a first class free. Nothing says you have to sign up. Nothing stopping you from taking all the free classes either!

Make grocery shopping a little father away:) (longer to go and come back, longer they are out)

"lunch" at Mc Donalds or some other place with a playplace. If hubby buys a drink and a small fry, they can stay till whenever undetected.

Hope that helps!

Hi,
Buy 2 memberships- one to the Roger Williams zoo and one to the Providence Children's Museum. The zoo is like $80.00 for the year- a 14 month old would love it. Plus, there is a great park and merry go round near by. Not sure what the Children's Museum runs, as I use my Boston card to get in. I think that it is free on Sundays (check their website)so check it out and see if it's worth it. My boys are 7 and 2. We've been faithful zoo people since my oldest was one.

Also, I'm not sure where Rumsford is located, but in my town we have a lot of preservation land- often these places have sheep and goats that you can visit for free. Another fun thing is to visit a college campus in the summer- bring a picnic and let your daughter run around in one of the grassy areas. Enjoy!

We have a membership to the Roger Williams Zoo, there are many other zoos that you can go to using this membership (including the museum of science). I think it was around $80. I bought it with my sister ($40 each) so we both can go with our kids. My daughter is 14 months old too and she loves going!!

Our library has a program called Book Babies for infants to 2 1/2 years old. It's an hour of play with their toys and a story for half an hour with more play thereafter. We enjoy it every week. You can hop around to different libraries to take advantage of all the programs. What about swimming at the beach? Playgrounds are fun. Check your weekend paper for free local activities. Good Luck.

Hey L.,

I also live in Rumford (Ferris Ave). There are free concerts at Pierce Field on Tuesday mornings. Here's a website that lists the concerts:

You can request museum passes from the RI libraries.

I also have some other things on my calendar at home. I'd be happy to email them to you if interested. My email is ____@____.com care -
