Our school asks parents to lead the class once a week for about 45 minutes. I didn't volunteer last year but don't want to forget this year...what's a fun easy activity to do with 20 4 year olds? You can read, do craft, etc.

Added: I'd love to do something about pet care as people in our area are so very negligent. any thoughts on how to tie it all together?

What can I do next?

If you'd like to relate it to pet care - maybe contact your local ASCPA to see if they could come in to speak to the kids about it taking care of animals and how their business works.

Then maybe have the class make rice socks for the new puppies and kittens that can be warmed in a microwave and then placed into their cages to keep them warm. My daughter's girl scout troop did this for our local chapter last year, and it was greatly appreciated. Everyone brought in two old or outgrown cotton socks, decorated them markers, poured about 1/2 cup of white uncooked rice into them, then tied off the end with a grosgrain ribbon (adults had to triple knot these). Your cost in this would be for the rice and ribbon - so under $10 for the whole class.

Good luck and have fun!

Another great book is Nubs, the true story of a mutt, a marine & a miracle. Oh, it makes me cry just to think about it but it has a happy ending when a Marine finds a way to send a stray dog (who has adopted his unit) back to the US.

Have a silly wiggle song to start, like "head shoulder knees and toes.." or "once there was a snowman".

Then, have a short little lesson, could be something on being nice to your friends, or honesty. You can do a corresponding nursery rhyme or fable to back up the story. (Like, the boy who cried wolf, then the lesson be honesty).

Then, do a craft activity that ties it all together.

I would suggest breaking up the 45 minutes into 3 15 minute activities. Say, you read a story, discuss it with the kids and then do a craft relating to the story.

Much easier to manage that then wondering what to do for 45 minutes.
