Ideas for Scavenger Hunt

I'm having a princess party for my daughters first birthday. The only kids that will be there is her 3 1/2 yo brother, cousins: 2 years, 8 years and 11 years. My SIL suggested a scavenger hunt for the kids as a game since I wanted something they could all do despite the ages. I've never done one. I'll tell you my idea but I need help.... I'm an artist and for the invites I drew a cute cartoon of my daughter (it's in the style of the show 'Pic Me' if you ever saw it), so I thought I could do a 'rescue the princess' theme and I would make a cut-out of my daughters cartoon picture I did (and she is the princess who needs rescuing). So I need to figure out what steps I can do for the kids to find the princess. I thought I could do something separate for the 2 older cousins (thought maybe riddles as clues to take them to different places to get the next clue??) and for the 2 younger ones, maybe use easter eggs to hide and put a picture of the princess in one and when all the eggs are found, we see who has the princess?? I definitely want something simple for the younger ones that require little or no help from adults... something they can have fun doing on their own. I can draw pictures of anything if anyones ideas require finding 'items'. Am I on the right track here? I'm just not sue how to put this all together. I'll give little prizes to all once the game is done.

What can I do next?

Honestly the two year old will prob not get a lot out of it aside from being excited running from one place to the other with the kids. depending on the amount of the kids..... I would break them into teams. a younger with older and give them all a job. One holds the bag, one holds the egg and one reads off the clue. The egg is a great idea. You hide the princess and then lead them back wards as your setting up. So if you put the princess in the closet, you put a clue as to wear you would place your shoes. Then that note goes in a fridge and in the next note is leading them to the fridge and that note is placed in the tree and so on and so forth. But I suggest you start backwards. the eggs can contain the clue and then a picture so both kids can get what they are saying.

you can also draw a huge map and pictures to lead them to the eggs and then the two year olds can find the egg but the older ones can do the whole treasure map. The treasure is the princess and you can be really detailed in the pics on your map.

Sounds like so much fun !

Do 2 scavenger hunts - use pastel colored plastic Easter eggs for little kids and make the "hiding places" obvious - sitting on a shelf, in the couch cushions, under a chair, under the radiator (if it's not hot), in a flower pot or potted plant. Use primary colored eggs for the older kids and use written clues to hiding places that are truly hidden (the closet, on top of a bookshelf, inside a shoe, in the fridge or dishwasher, in the oven (if you remember it's in there!) and so on. Tell the older ones to leave the obvious pastels for the little kids. Give everyone a bag or a plastic bucket for collecting their finds.

Otherwise the big kids do all the finding and the little ones just run around and don't actually have the fun of finding anything on their own. It will be up to the big kids to share and that doesn't always work.

Put the prizes right in the eggs - otherwise, if it's all "find the princess", it's a huge competition and most of the kids come up empty. Use little candies, favors, stickers, temporary tattoos, etc. For the older kids, use a small gift card, a $1 bill, hair accessories (if they are girls), and so on. You could put the princess in one egg for a larger prize if you want to. The stuff in the eggs takes the place of a separate goodie bag.

I don't think the 2 yr olds will be able to follow the game so I don't think it
will work.
How about a scavenger hunt for the older kids

Possibly a follow the "cut out footsteps" for the little ones to follow to a prize. (They may not get it so that is the only thing they MAY be able to do. Trust you it will be mass pandamonium ((sp?)).

Or

A box of sand for the little ones to comb through to find treasures.
