I want to thank everyone who wrote to me and there were some really good ideas in there and yeah he will love the paper and boxes lol. I think I am going to get him some sand for his turtle and a dumb truck. When his dad gets out of the field we are going to take him to the zoo.
Thanks again moms.

we just had my daughters first and the baby powerwheels are great. She looks so adorable on it, and seems to know how to control it (push the button with her thumb) when she wants to. It was $64.64 at walmart. ages 12-36 mos.

If he likes to be read to, you could get him some board books. Also, tub toys are usually popular for that age.

We got one son a cozy coupe car for his 1st bday, the one with the floor board and handle so it could be pushed. Now with 2 boys we are trying to cut down on "stuff" so we give things like swimming lessons. Of course, they don't really understand the concept at 1 and 2.5 so a pair of swim trunks or a beach towel goes along with it .....

Hi A.! I was just thinking and my son really liked playing with a bat and ball I got him one when he was about 1 it had a little stand for the ball and he kept trying to hit it ! it was really cute because they don't have much aim at that age but it teaches them good coordination.(be in mind that I mean the plastic ones)!I mean at that age they like most any types of ball games but that one is the one my son like playing the most.
Plus I don't know if your son is in to Thomas the Train but my son was and he really like the wood train set the only thing with that is I heard on the news last night that parents have to be really careful with anything that has magnets in it because they are recalling alot of toys with magnets due to children swallowing the magnets and there have been many cases where children have had to have surgery to remove them or in one case a little boy died. Just thought that I would let you know just in case you didn't see it on T.V. last night! with that age they are still putting so many things in their mouth and every mom knows to watch carefully. Well just like to say Happy Birthday to your son, Didn't think about asking if he could walk! sorry my kids were early walkers but if so hope this advise will help! K.

Hey there! I am a Stay at Home Mom of 1, so out kids are pretty close in age. I know it is hard to find anything with all the choices out there! My daughter turned 1 in Febuary and we got her a lot of Fisher Price Little People and she loves them. But if he likes the outdoors so much why don't you get him a sandbox and some toys for it. They have a really cute turtle like looking sandbox at Walmart. My daughter loves playing with sand and building stuff with it! So I bet he would enjoy it too....

Hi A.,

If I could have one I would have a swing that you put on a tree. I think they are made by FisherPrice. I think if we had a big tree like that it would be a great thing to have. My son loves the swings at Brack. We took him when he was 11 months. If he likes to be outside that i think that would be a great idea. Our yard is way small to have anything swing from anywhere. LOL!

The best thing right now is that little ones are happy with the wrapping paper the gifts come in!!! Save your big purchases for when your sons gets older and can tell you what he really wants, I have a 5yr old and he wants EVERYTHING!! no matter what you do give as a gift it will be fine .. I've learned that as my son gets older, I choose one item he really wants and the rest are small things .. He is very happy that way. Good luck!! And Happy early B-day to your little guy!

My son just turned 16 mos and is a big fan of the "OUTDOORS"! We purchased a sandbox and a pail with all the tools he needs to dig in and have fun...he loves it! Boys will be boys and if mom doesn't mind the sand in his pants then this is one way to go. The best part of it is that now I can read a favorite book and keep an eye on him!!!!!!!! Good Luck and hope this is helpful....

A push or ride toy. A sandbox is a very good idea with some sand toys also. Blocks to build, and balls. But most of all the kids like the box or wrapping paper the most.

My son is about to turn 3 and he has no lacking for stuff, so I can understand your pain. Actually this year I asked people to buy him some things he needed. (Shoes, sheets, socks, etc..)

Some of Noah's favorites for his first birthday were his "Latches Board" puzzle (Mardel's or babies-r-us) he still loves opening and closing all the doors, windows and gates and its great for motor skills. He absolutely loves any puzzle he gets.

His Ocean Wonders baby tunnel (target or babies-r-us)which you would have thought he was a gerbil when he was in it and he still loves it. Though he has outgrown it and I keep it put up whenever he sees it in the closet he pulls it out and rolls around in it like good ole times. In fact if you want it you can have it.

He liked his small powerwheels (wal-mart) but it took him a few months to master holding down the button with his thumb and not dragging his feet when he rode it but he still loves to ride it.

And of course his large hard plastic Tonka truck sets (Wal-mart) he plays with them every single day to this day. He especially loves the F150 and Hummer.

Also I got him the board back books for his ABC's and 123's and colors (dollartree or basically anystore). He reads everyday and I make sure to get him new books at every holiday and special occasion. Books are always great gifts and promote brain development.

Since Noah gets gifts from so many people due to my being divorced and remarried I can pretty much give you the downlow on most of Toys-R-us. I always say he already has the left side and their working on the right. Let me know if I can help. Good luck in your shopping. Im sure whatever you get he'll love it!!

Unless he has a favorite character, which this is really when they are finding out what they like. (My son likes Pablo from the Backyardigans so we got the dancing singing one) You know he is gonna get clothes, and he's gonna get toys that he won't really play with for a few months. Maybe open him up a savings account (it may sound lame but it is a good idea). We opened up a savings account for our son when he was 3 months old, he is now 13 months old. We tried to put at least $10 a week. Plus he hill get money from those relatives that think he is too young for toys. That is a great place to start saving. If you already have one going put $50 or something in there or whatever. Have a Happy Birthday with him and enjoy the cuteness!

Like someone said they will spend more time with paper than the present. Something we did for my son on his first birthday was planted a tree in the back yard for him. Each year we take a picture of them growing together. It has been a lot of fun, and he loves his tree. We also gave him a dump truck and made a little sand box from a small plastic pool. (though you have to be willing to deal with the mess of the sand :) He loved it and played with it for hours. But the tree was my most favorite gift we have done, and I need to do that for my girls.
