I'm having a hard time thinking up of a variety of healthy food to feed my 1 year old daughter. We have the snack thing down......she loves the Graduate fruit bars, whole grain goldfish, Yo Baby yogurt, any fruit, and Teddy Grahams!! She will eat some of the Graduates Lil' Sides with chicken nuggets and a grill cheese, but other than that I don't have another meal for her. Sometimes she'll eat some of our grilled chicken, mac and cheese, green beans, etc., but I don't want her to be as picky an eater as I was growing up and I feel like the only way to do that is to give her variety. Any suggestions on healthy meals for her??

What can I do next?

My little won eat what ever we eat but of course i make a point to eat healthy all the time. Anything from brocoli and rice caseroles, brisket, mash potatoes, beans soups, meatloaf, enchiladas, green beans, the only thing she does not like is cucumbers, peas, and celery. Make it a point for them to try everything. That way they learn to try there food at all times. She trys everything we each. she even tried sushie but I made sure she had all hypotitus shots first before letting her try this. She liked better the beef fried rice.

I agree w/Jen S. My daughter just turned 1 on Saturday, and I've completely done away with baby food (although I do have some Gerber Graduates on reserve, just in case). I have been trying to cook as healthy as possible for my husband and me so that I can give my baby some of our food too. She's doing good so far. Hasn't not eaten anything yet.
On the other hand, it is kinda hard though because now I HAVE to think meals through.

Good luck to you and please share any recipes you may find that you and your daughter really liked because really, I am in the same dilemma that you're in.

P.S. My daughter loves mashed potatos and macaroni and cheese.

At 1 I gave my child all of our food. I would take his food out before I added many spices (no salt, etc). It makes us prepare healthy meals for the whole family! There really isnt much that she cant eat by now!

Like everyone else said, just keep encouraging her to try new things. Also, look at the things she already likes and try to find ways to make them more nutritious. Mix broccoli or peas in with the mac n cheese. Put lots of veggies in your pasta sauce. One thing that worked for me was to make the "presentation" of the food fun - smiley face pancakes with raisins and fruit for the facial features, etc. Sometimes, let them play with their food! If my kids were eating raw veggies for a snack they would make pictures or letters out of the celery sticks and carrot sticks. While they were creating their pictures they would unknowingly be munching on the veggies!

Good Luck,
K.

At that age, I was feeding my son regular food, whatever we were eating, just cut up small enough for him. Of course, he shunned baby food altogether, and went straight to whatever we were eating. I found he ate more because we were eating it, too! So just make sure whatever you're eating is healthy (so it's good for you, too!) and chop it up into small pieces that she can grab herself, even if it's a little messy. :)

My 16 month old is underweight. Not that she does not eat but she is off the charts in height. We have started giving her pediasure granola bars and shakes. I dont know if it is helping her gain weight but she is getting all the vitamins she is needing in a day.

You can also do quesidillas (2 tortillas with cheese, ham, beens, etc between them.)

Jerry Sienfeld's wife has a cook book out where she puts spinach and other veggies in food. There is enough of the spinach for the child to get the vitamins they need but not enough to taste it!

My 12 month-old son has refused baby foods for quite a while now, and we're on a virtually 100% finger food diet. He also has a huge dislike for the Gerber Pasta Pickups, so I'm having to feed him regular foods. Feeding him with a fork or a spoon results in a battle after just a few bites because he'd rather try to feed himself with whatever utensil I'm using.

I try to give my son wholesome foods without depriving him of splurges now and again, and he usually eats what we eat.

For breakfast, I give him a buckwheat or whole grain waffle with fresh fruit. (I'm having a hard time finding good-for-you breakfast foods that are finger friendly and easy to prepare.) I have a microwave egg poacher, so I am considering adding eggs to his breakfast rotation as well as some microwave turkey sausage.

Some examples of lunch and dinner foods are: edamame, Boca patties, Boca nuggets, popcorn chicken, roasted chicken breasts, steamed pot stickers, luncheon meat, turkey patties, cheese cubes, roasted potatoes, shells and cheese, steamed veggies of all types, fresh fruits of all types, and tater tots. I try to make sure that he has protein, a healthy starch, and some sort of fruit or veggie at almost all of his meals, and I always have him try whatever we're eating, especially when we eat out.

Hope this all helps! I love being able to share food with my LO.
