I recently posted a message asking for personal experiences using castor oil to induce labor. Well...I took it and NOTHING. I took a small dosage (2 tbsp) as opposed to the whole 2oz bottle that some recommend because I do not want to harm my baby. I need more advice on what works! I feel like I have officaially tried EVERYTHING. I do not want to be medically induced with pitocin. Has anyone had their water broken by a doctro to start labor? Did it? How long did it take? I read it can take up to a couple of days? If you had your water broken, did pitocin eventually have to be used? How long was labor? Any other ideas for initiating labor? I have treid, sex, evening primrose oil, nipple stimulation via breastpump, pineapple, eggplant parm, walking, red rasberry leaf tea, castor oil....I actually jokingly (kinda) tried using a voodoo doll my friend brought me back from new orleans....nothing seem to be work. She is a big baby. I have been 2 cm dialtaed and 50% effaced for over 2 weeks now. My doctor wont let me go past 41 weeks, but I really want to go into labor by myself. I thought castor oil was a last resort....but I was wrong....any other ideas???????? Has anyone tried blue or black cohosh? I can only find blue cohosh in capsule form in lakeland.

What can I do next?

I had two friends drink a few Mountain Dew Code Red sodas. Don't know if that what did it for them, but it within 24 hours of drinking them they had their babies. It may be worth a try. I've heard caffeine slows labor though so who knows. The end is miserable, but she'll come when she's good and ready, you've made a nice cozy home she doesn't want to leave.

I was induced 1 week after my due date (2cm and 50% effaced) and here's what happened: Went in to LRMC at 6pm, had cervadil inserted which is like a string or something; slept and rested comfortably until about 5am which is when I was having contractions; had the epidural put in; was laboring on my own without pitocin until about 11am when they started a small amount of pitocin; my water was broken at some point too but I didn't even know they had done it because I felt nothing; pushed around 12:30pm for a half hour and nothing happened; then they gave me more epidural medicine and I slept until about 3pm and out came baby at 3:25pm after pushing for a half hour. It was much easier than I heard and the induction was a breeze. Figure, all together it was about 19 hours from the time I arrived to the hospital and when she was born. My baby was 8lb 4oz at 41 weeks pregnant. I'd try not to stress about it--your baby will come when he/she's ready and many people have had good birthing experiences with pitocin. I know you must be ready for this baby to arrive but just try to be patient and know that you'll be taken care of.

Hi M.,
Ok, I know this sounds nuts!!! But if you are willing to try almost anything...here goes,
somehow my husband found a "recipe" for me when I was pregnant with our daughter. It was maccaroni and cheese...drenched with wishteshire (sorry about the spelling) sauce. I swear in about a day I started having contractions and wne into labor 2 days before I was supposee to be induced. If you can stomach the taste..you can try that.
Hope this helps!

M.,

When I was pregnant with my son, a friend of mine told me to drink a warm pint of Guiness as that is what she did. I ended up not trying it because I was already 4 days late and being induced the next day. My doctor broke my water and started my right on pitocin this happened at 7 am by 3 pm I was ready to start pushing. It did not take very long to start feeling the pitocin. The nice thing about knowing I was being induced was I got up the morning of my delivery and showered, braided my hair to keep it out of my face, my husband was able to eat, so it was rather nice being able to plan the day. Good Luck on your newest addition.

How far along are you right now? If your baby is not ready to come, he or she isn't going to come! Remember that an AVERAGE pregnancy last 40 weeks. The normal range is 37-42 weeks. I would just take lots of nice relaxing walks, continue to have sex with your partner, and realize that baby needs to stay inside right now for some reason or another. I promise you no one has ever been pregnant forever!
