If you find cash on your husband's packets when you are doing laundry, do you?
-Keep it and say nothing
-Give it to him
-Put it on a table where you or him can get it if need to
-Lie to your self and pretend it came from your jeans
They know that whatever I find in the pockets at the time it is being loaded into the washer is forfeited to me for my trouble. Period. I've kept as much as $20. It's my responsibility to wash the clothes, and fold them. It is not my responsibility to baby the rest of the population of this house and do things for them they are perfectly capable of doing themselves, and it's insulting me to expect me to waste my time on cleaning out pockets. So, what I find is mine, unless I have no use for it :)
It certainly cuts down on the money left in pockets. And they are good sports about it, though most of the time I don't mention it.
Also, folded clean clothes I find mixed in with dirty are taken, and either they have to pay me for them to get them back or they lose the piece of clothing altogether.

Keep it and harass him about it later! Then depending on how much it was, buy myself something nice for my troubles of doing his laundry ;)
Finders keepers!

I consider it all my tip for doing the laundry...including the beads, crayons, and bugs, and used kleenex. I have a fun collection tin where it all goes.

HA -that money is MINE! I consider it my "toll" for doing all the laundry ;-) It does amaze (and somewhat dismay me) that I've found as much as $80 before and he's never missed it! We're quite comfortable, but if I have $80 in cash and suddenly can't lay my hands on it -I MISS IT! Oh well! When it's over $20, I usually say something to him at some point -like in a few weeks or after I've put it in our vacation account.

I would never find money in my husband's pocket but if I did I would put it in my wallet. It is not like I am gaining anything it is just not wise to leave money laying around so that it falls behind the washer and dryer. If he needs more money he takes it out of the account just like I do so why go through the trouble of returning it.
My older kids, lord I made a mess of money off them. Hey if you are going to be lazy and just take your clothes off and throw them on the floor without cleaning your pockets and throwing them in the hamper then consider it a service fee! :p I think the most I ever found was a 100 dollars in my son's pockets. He accepted his loss without a whimper and picked up his clothes for maybe two weeks before going back to being lazy.

if I find money - it goes in a little cup I have on the dryer....it gets collected and gets turned into change for gum, a movie rental or something.
and if there is ever a significant amount - like a bill vs change? I say - "I found something in the dryer....can you tell me what it is?"
I don't lie about it. I don't hide it. Lying is wrong. I wouldn't want anyone to lie to me. So no. No lies. What's the point? It's only change.

We don't have a "my" money mentality around here. It all belongs to the household. If I find money it gets thrown on top of the washer as I'm doing laundry. Most of the time coins go in the TARDIS cookie jar, paper goes in my purse. If someone needs cash for something and doesn't have any they let me know they're grabbing some out of my purse.

Kudos to you for actually finding cash in your husband's pockets. I wouldn't be that lucky because we are usually broke, lol and my husband is cheap..lol
But if that strike of luck was ever to happen, I would have the biggest grin on my face and tell him I am keeping it.. At least he could not say I didn't tell him.

If I find money in the laundry it isn't from my husband, he NEVER forgets to take things out of his pockets. Money in the laundry comes from my 4 year-old son. More often I find rocks in the washer. I give both back to him.

We have an old coffee can daughter decorated when she was a toddler (she is now 17) and we call it the "ice cream money" because the ice cream truck used to come through our neighborhood and that was the change.
We still put all change in it daily and I also add any money I find doing laundry in it as well. About once a year, we count, roll and take it to daughter's savings account.
It is OUR money.... we don't do the "my" money thing in our family.

any money found in the washer belongs to whoever is doing the laundry. I used to keep a cup on the washer and if anyone needed quarters for school they could look there first. now my youngest son is 16 and does a lot of the laundry for the household. whatever he finds he keeps. just like I used to lol.

We have a large jar (sort of like a mason jar, but on steroids because it's really big) that sits on the bar in our kitchen. That's where spare or stray money gets put whether it's paper or coin. Walking out of the laundry room, I'd have to go through the kitchen and pass the bar anyway, so, I drop the money in there. I see Jer do that too. The money is most often just cashed in (my son and I roll coins once or twice a year) and it all goes to some FAMILY fun, except that occasionally I take a couple dollars in quarters out for the dog wash or to vacuum out the car. If Jeremy (or I) "needed" some cash, that's what the jar is for. It's just that whatever's in there when the mood hits gets rolled and deposited at the bank for family fun.

Hi mamy-
I have had (for years) an antique 'jug' that I keep at the side of the fireplace...We ALL put 'spare change' in there for our 'vacation fund'...lol
Now with 3 in college, I notice 'most' of the quarters are gone (laundry machines is what I am thinking...lol)
Any 'paper' $$ I find...I consider my 'tip'...
Best luck!

Our rule is that whoever is doing the laundry gets to keep the money! And I am usually the one doing the laundry.
Usually we return the money to the owner, but it has taught my children to look in their pockets more often.

The most I've ever found in cash was $1 here and there. I usuall know who it came from and give it back. But I'm rethinking that after reading these posts!!
I have, however, discovered hubby's wallet a few times after its been washed. He got mad at me the first time and I very sternly told him I'm NOT his mother and I will NOT check his pockets before doing laundry. As far as I'm concerned, if his pants are either on the floor or in the laundry then they're ready to be washed. End of story. He didn't get mad the couple other times. :)

My man got sooo bad about this that I instated a rule ... I find it I keep it ... it is kinda like my TIP for doing the laundry. I have a bleach bottle on the top shelf that holds it all and when it is full I take it to the bank, cash it in and go buy myself something nice. One time I had enough to buy plane tickets for me and my son to fly to California from Texas to visit family. It all comes from his "allowance" and is what it is. I have never needed to break into it out of NEED only want.

If it is paper money, I always go put it next to his wallet so he can see it, but if I need some cash I ask him if he minds if I keep it, or if it just a few bucks I put it into the kids' piggybanks.
If it is just loose change, it goes right into the piggybanks.
ETA: The rule in my parents' house was "all found money is Mom's." Cut down on the false ownership claims from 5 kids.

I guess it would depend on how much it is. If it is a small amount I would probably keep it and figure it was my paycheck for the week :-) Otherwise I would probably just put it back on his dresser.

If it's change, he doesn't want it back. We put that into our son's piggy bank.
If it over $5.00 and I know it's not mine I'll give it back to him.
A couple of dollars--also gets tossed into the piggy bank.

When its spare change we have a money jar, that we use on black friday ;) and when its money, I usually keep it, unless he asks for it.
Like most y'all we have an our money deal, so its the same thing if he finds it or I find it. I love that he does laundry too.
