Ok so I am preggo with my second child. I just found out 2 days ago, and I have taken 3 tests and all come back positive almost instantly. My son is 4 years, and honestly I dont really remember what not to eat? Isnt that horrible? I was so young and I didnt know any better, and to top it off I started getting sick almost instantly! I was sick throughout my whole pregnancy, so anything I could keep down I would eat. But this time I want to really try to pay attention to my body and really take care of myself, and hopefully prevent getting that sick again, and make sure I have all the nutrients I need already in me, so if I do get sick,, at least I know I was taking care of myself. I love Tuna sandwhiches.. and I heard you cant eat that because of the Mercury? What can I drink? Im cuban, so Im addicted to coffie, tea anything with caffeine in it. I love green tea also, not a big soda drinker, I love cranberry juice, and just juices in general. What did you ladies do when you were this early in your pregnancy? BTW Im still in denial about being pregnant, hence:taking 3 tests :). How accurate are those tests? My period has been out of wack since I took out the IUD 3 months ago, so honestly Im really not sure when its supposed to come, I know im late, but how late who knows!!! All i know is those tests are positive!!! thanks a lot ladies!! i dont know what I would do if I didnt have this site!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

YOU LADIES ARE AWESOME!!!! I have been taking pre natal vitamins, I take the one a day that I bought at rite-aide. Ive been taking them for my hair and nails for the past couple months. Of course I will go on a better one once I see the doctor. I made an appointment for next Friday. The first day of my last period was December 20th, so by what the nurse said im right below six weeks. I have honestly no clue when this baby could have been concieved, between Christmas and New Years and still being a Newly Wed.. lol... jeez who knows!!! I have another question for you ladies... I love to work out.. what Kind of work outs can I do? I do TONS of ab workouts.. is that still ok? Im being paranoid b/c im scared of doing something that might start up a miscarriage. :(

I would go buy a pregnancy book. Either "what to expect when you're expecting" or "YOU having a baby". I'm pregnant with my 2nd as well and wanted a refresher. I bought both books and they are very helpful. Congrats and good luck.

You are preggie! Those tests are very accurate. congrats!! Watch the tuna intake because of the mercury content. Start taking your prenatal vitamins, limit your sugar because of weight gain...and enjoy your coffee but in moderation. If you can drink decaf even better.

First, Congrats.
Second, call the OB and make an appointment.
Third, BabyCenter.com has all sorts of articles.

If memory serves, caffiene should be reduced to one serving a day...this practically killed me, but I managed it.

Stay away from soft cheeses.

You can have some tuna, but you need to limit it. Also, stay away from shark, sword fish, tile fish...and there is one more...but I cannot remember off the top of my head.

No raw fish or meats.

Make sure you wash all your fresh veggies and fruits.

If you go here, it talks about all sorts of stuff:

You are ok to drink your coffee-maybe limit it to one cup in the morning. Limit the tuna as you said-mercury. Take a good prenatal vitamin and eat foods that are rich in folic acid. Juices are okay, but watch the sugar for gaining too much weight too soon. Congratulations!

Definitely make your appt with the OB/GYN. The home tests are very accurate. I questioned mine b/c I was told I would never be able to get pregnant after 12 years of trying and then being late. When I called the doctor's office, they told me if your home test was positive, then you are pregnant, that is how reliable they are.
Also, start on the prenatals. Be sure to get ones w/DHA. Drink lots of water, eat well-balanced meals, and cut down on the caffeine.
There is all kinds of info on-line. Also, I bought the What to Expect when you're Expecting book, and it was a great source of info.
CONGRATULATIONS!

No lunch meat, hot dogs, deli cheese without microwaving till steaming; no caffiene (or limited to like 1-2 SMALL cups of coffee or green tea a day); tuna like 1 time every 2 weeks, other lower mercury fish 2 servings a week; no soft cheeses (goat, brie, gorgonzolla) due to listeria risk; and skip the soda pop (not good for baby or you) --try 4 oz of 100% fruit juice with zero calorie seltzer water :) It is pretty darn good and not as expensive as those yummy izze all natural soda pops!

Mom to 2 under 4 and 1 on the way!

First off, congrats! Those tests are usually pretty darn accurate!

I would stick with the juices, OJ & Cranberry both very good for you!

As far as the food is concerned, think healthy and do your best till you see the Dr. They will give you the latest up-to-date list of "approved" and "not allowed" food!

Good Luck woman!

Hi Aidens Mama! Congratulations!! I hope you'll add Juice Plus capsules to your daily regimen. Dr. William Sears (askdrsears.com) predicts that when the new pregnancy research on Juice Plus is released that Juice Plus will be the new standard in prenatal care! If you'd like me to forward you the results of the preliminary study just send me your email (I won't add you to any mass distribution lists I promise). Juice Plus is so much more nutritious than a vitamin, it's actually 17+ concentrated fruits, vegetables and berries liquified and dehydrated into fine powder that's placed in capsules. So when you're on Juice Plus you are going to be guaranteeing you and your growing baby are getting the natural combination of nutrients from Kale, Spinach, Beets, Papaya, Broccoli and all the others every day helping increase your odds of a healthy full term pregnancy. Feel free to call me at ###-###-#### or check out wethriveonjuiceplus.com. I've got a whole lot of other info on Juice Plus and pregnancy too. Time magazine in November talked about how eating more fruits and vegetables during pregnancy can change your baby's health picture for life!

It's really hard to tell you what to eat because honestly, every woman and her pregnancies are so different. I couldn't eat chicken for the first 6 months with my first two pregnancies. Craved orange juice with my third pregnancy when I hate orange juice! Craved anything salty with my third but I don't eat salt. Now I'm pregnant with my 4th and I was MORE sick with this pregnancy than with all the previous 3. I love drinking water but could not stomach it with this pregnancy!

Yes, stay away from tuna fish and caffeine. Try to eat fruits and veggies, stay away from sweets ~ make every calorie count.

As for the accuracy of tests, you can get a false negative but not a false positive and you said you took 3. So, you are pregnant.

There are virtually no false positives, so CONGRATS MAMA!!

You can have juice, 100% juice is better, but it is best to eat your fruits and not drink your calories. When "eating for two" remember how big #2 is!! Pea size? Peanut? Kiwi?

You can have some caffiene, but it is best to limit it. The only caffiene I had when pregnant was in hot chocolate, but some women can have a couple cups of coffee a day and it doesn't seem to bother them. Tea does have less caffiene than coffee. Get caffiene free tea if you can.

As far as tuna goes, last I heard it was okay, as long as you don't eat it more often than once a week. Always get wild-caught tuna in a pouch - NOT in a can, because cans contain BPA. For that matter, ALWAYS get wild-caught fish. They are healthier and do not have dyes injected into them. (Yes, salmon farms dye the fish flesh so it looks 'good' and 'fresh.' Talk about ewww!)
