I'm Going to Get a Boob Job, What Should I Know?

I'm working on my figure after two kids and serious a car accident, lots of weight gain in a short period. I've decided that in about a year I want to get a breast enlargment. What should I ask a doctor, how do you choose a doctor? I haven't sat down with anyone yet and I'm not sure where to even begin. I've seen the horror stories on Oprah, but they don't go into how to do something like this intelligently.

Has anyone had this done? Silicone vs. Saline?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. J.

So What Happened?

I went and saw a dr. and when he showed me his before and after photo's EVERYONE had scars several years afterward. I've seen woman after c-sections with better scars. An OBGYN should not have better results than a Plastic surgoen. Thanks for all the advice, J.

I would just do a lot of research on it. Pros and Cons of each, cost, and so on. Then pick which one you think would be the best for you. Best of luck!!!

Yes, I have. Are you in Nashville TN? If so, I can tell you that Dr. Kevin Hagan at Vanderbilt University has done 4 procedures on me. He is rate one of the top 100 doctors in the US and is named one of the top 10 plastic guys in the US. He will discuss the pros and cons of Silicone and Saline. He is the the greatest in my book. In fact in 3 weeks I have another surgery booked. (Lost 170 lbs and have to deal with the excess.) I am having Saline done then with a lift.

His number is ###-###-####. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Don't do it, J.. Think long and hard about WHY you want to change yourself in this way and remember that God has a plan and purpose for your life and loves you the way you are.
Please reconsider this surgery and ask yourself why you want this. Is it because you don't like the way you look? Is it a deeper something? Seek counsel from someone older whom you respect and look up to. Please wait and rethink this. If you change yourself in this way, will it really make you "happy", or will you seek something else next month, next year? Our society values the physical, the thin, the rich and intelligent, but God values you just as you are and he is waiting for you to come to Him with your issues. Try it.:-)

If you are planning to have any other children and breastfeeding,I would consider delaying the surgery. I have heard multiple times from plastic surgeons that I have personally worked with that it should not affect your ability to breastfeed, but each new mom that I have counseled about breastfeeding who had undergone augmentation has found it to be extremely difficult.

Do internet research. Talk to ladies who have had it done. I do know that the larger your breasts are, the more prone you are to extreme back problems. Since you have been through an accident you really want to weigh your options about doing anything drastic.

I am a mother of two boys (8 and 6).I had a breast enlargement done exactly a year ago.The internet is where I started doing all my research on the pros and cons, and I tried to get as many references from people I knew on which plastic surgeon was good here in Knoxville,Tn.The surgeon I used was recommended by many women, his name is Dr.Stephen Lazarus.I have saline implants even though the FDA has approved new silicone implants that are $1000 more in price. You have more of a chance of issues with silicone even though there is less rippling, etc. All the surgeons in town are pretty competitive with the cost of the surgery.Never go real cheap, look on the internet for before and after shots of women with your build to determine how many cc's you want, plan to spend the first three days in alot of pain and not being mobile whatsoever.Have extra help during those first three days with the kids. They will be swollen and sore the first few weeks,so buy button down shirts and sports bra's ahead of time. It's really worth it...mine are great! It makes a big difference with the hubby too!Good luck!

I had my boob job done about two years ago and went to the same doctor that several friends had gone to. That's how I chose my doctor. I would make appts with several and go talk to them. See which ones seem to know more and offer you more info. See if they have any references that you can call.

I would recommend saline implants because your body already has saline and if one were to burst or leak then your body would absorb the extra saline. And to me...they feel more natural.

I love my boob job! Where do you live? I'm in Louisiana.

Hi there! First let me say; I am a bfing, cloth diapering, baby wearing momma of a 4.5 month old little girl. Being natural and holistic is very important to me since becoming a mom (before I never really cared).

With that being said, I got breast implants about two years ago (not planning on getting pregnant ever). Since having my daughter and changing my views on so many things I have often thought "If I had it to do over again would I still do it?" Every time the answer is YES!

Bottom line, cosmetic surgery is a very personal choice. It is not for everyone and it is not to be entered into lightly. I researched and thought about my decision for about 4yrs prior to my initial consult.

My advise: research, and lots of it! Read everything you can get your hands on. Take time to find a surgeon that you are comfortable with. Talk to other people who have used that Dr.
Good luck!

Hi J. S.,

My name is M. D. I'm 43 and married for 25 yrs. I've had a breast inlargement almost 6 yrs ago. I love them and am going to have them redone probably in about 2 yrs. You do know that you will have to have them redone in between 5 and 10 yrs. I looked around and found a wonderful doctor. I went from a B to a D and I just love them. I'm 5'0" and weigh about 125 and they really show. I have saline. When I had them done I went in the Thursday morning to do them and was home by lunchtime. Friday I went for a check up and on Monday I went back to work. I never had any problems with them.

I've had mine for 15 years. It may well be the best money we've spent. I too have seen some horror stories, not on TV, but up close and face to face. First, I suggest you research the topic. Find out all you can before a consultation. This will give you a basic knowledge of what questions you want to ask. For instance, some doctors will suggest placing the implant behind the muscle wall. This does give the appearance of size, but ends up looking flat overall. As with any surgery, there are certain risks. You WILL want someone to help with childcare for at least a few days. Little ones don't understand, or at least forget quickly, that they can't woller on you. We live in the country, and because I had to return to the doctor the next morning to have the wrapping (tight gauze) removed and be placed in a special bra, we spent the night at a hotel. Within two days, however, I was vacuuming. It was a quick recovery, and mostly painless. There is a lot of swelling, for a week or so.

Good luck with your project and God bless you.

D.

I got a boob job about 3 years ago. I was like you and didn't know where to start. I went online and researched a few doctors in my area. I made an appt for a consultation. The doctor talked to me about what I wanted and explained the procedure and what to expect afterwards. I felt very comfortable with him. I chose the silicone gel because I am very thin and it would not ripple like the saline. I was sore for a few days after the surgery. I am very happy with the results. I have not had any problems and they look great!

Have you ever watching Dr. 90210? It's a reality tv show based in LA of great doctors who to plastic surgery for a living. Check it out - and be careful of doctors. I would only go to someone who has recommended them, someone who can show you how good they are.

As someone looking into the very opposite procedure (breast reduction), I encourage you with caution.
First things first, Research, research, research!!!! You cannot research things too much, get all the horror stories, get the glowing stories, get every single fact you can!!!
Secondly, look online for reputable Drs in the area, read up on the Docs.
Thirdly, let me tell you about my Sister-in-law. She had a boob job, but now she is afraid to do things she once enjoyed/looked forward to. She went skiing... but was too afraid of falling on the hard packed snow and busting her implants to enjoy it. She used to love roller coasters, but now are weary of them because of the same reason. I KNOW that it takes a LOT of force to bust them.... but her fears overrode her common sense. If you get the job done, don't let fears get in the way.
Lastly, if you ever consider another child, remember, first of all, your body changes with EACH child, and you might wind up with bigger breasts, secondly, the implants might not allow you to breast feed. I'm not sure if they do now or not, but I know back in the older days, there were issues.
Also from a woman with huge breasts... seriously consider this. Mine are a pain, literally. I experience shoulder pain, back pain, and these things get in the way a lot. So many times I have told my friends "I wish I were a B again". Remember to love your body... for all it's flaws, and it's goodness. I hope this helps, take care, and don't forget to research!!

Just something to think about. My sister was always little and petite and she wanted bigger boobs because her sob husband wasn't pleased with her the way she was. He wanted more boobs.... maybe he should have married someone he loved and then it wouldn't have mattered!. Anyway, she is still little but she has big boobs. She says they aren't much bigger than they were..... I disagree... I can tell the difference. If you have gained weight, you should rethink this. My sister now looks like she has gained 25 pounds. She actually weighs less now that when she did when she got the boob job, but she still looks fat to me. I think that if your boobs are big, then you automatically look bigger everywhere else. Everyone thinks that she has gained weight too. They don't really realize that it is a boob job, they just think that she got fat.
So if you don't want to look fatter, I would get a reduction not a addition.
Just something for you to think about.

I actually had one done a couple of years ago. Of course choose a doctor who is licensed but also talk to people who have had theirs done and see if they suggest their doctor. When I went for a consultation, I first watched an informative video and then from there I had the opportunity to ask any questions. I was told that you must get saline unless those "pop" then you will have the choice of silicone. silicone is suppose to feel more natural but b/c saline is safer for your body -in case of it rupturing- is why they first use it. Anyway, I'm glad I did it! Good Luck!

Do you have any girlfriends who have actually had theirs done? I would talk with them. That way, they can give you the real scoop. Plus, they can recommend a doctor closeby.
