I would love some ideas on things to do for my son who is turning 9 without breaking the bank. If we did a party at home, what kind of games could you suggest? Thank you all in advance for your answers.

What can I do next?

I did a home party when my son turned 8 and the boys enjoyed free play time more then the structured games I planned. I did 5 dollar pizza's juice boxes and cup cakes. Then his theme was Star wars so I twicked the classic games. I got a posted of Jar jar and cut his tongue out and played pin the tongue on Jar Jar. I played Stars Wars music and did musical chairs. and did a pinata. Very cheap birthday party.

My son just turned 9 a month ago. He invited 5 friends to the movies. We bought all the candy/popcorn, etc. The new Avengers movie would be a good one to see!

Sleepover with a few buds, pizza, a movie?
Laser tag place?
My son is 9 and he & his friends like to play basketball, throw the football & play baseball.
We have kids here all the time and they never need me to plan their activities!
Apples to Apples is a great game for multiple kids if you're looking for a board game idea.

How about Bowling? For my son we got together for pizza & cake at my house & then we drove to the Bowling alley & kids bowled! It was fun & easy :) Not to expensive if you check on line for deals or specials. Lser tag if a great idea too. Good Luck & happy early birthday to him!

My nephew had a food fight for his birthday a couple years ago. They put a big tarp out in the yard & put soft nonstaining messy foods out on it & told the boys to have at it. They had a blast! You just need to make sure that the other parents know about it before they accept the invite, that the kids have a change of clothes & that you can hose them all off afterward.

I would live to do this with my son but unfortunately his bday is in December.

Around here, it seems like boys have activity-centered parties, such as bowling, laser tag, and the like. There's a big pizza place that has a HUGE arcade, and that place is wildly popular with the 10-and-under crowd. If the weather is warm enough where you live, how about a pool party? Most public pools will even provide a lifeguard for the price of the pool rental.
