Hi Moms,
I'm considering having a tutor come to my home a couple times per week to teach my daughter, who is 5, Spanish. This person would need to have a teaching background. I'm wondering if any of you have hired tutors, or teachers even, to come to your home for private lessons.
How was the experience? How did you find them? How much did you pay?
Thanks Moms!

Care.com is an excellent resource where you can search for background-checked tutors.
the going rate here is about 60$-90$ an hour, depends on your area. You can often find tutors through the local schools. My area has Spanish workshops with several children learning songs, games, eating snacks and interacting in Spanish which would be more appropriate for a five year old if available in you area. Interacting with other children is so helpful in learning a new language at that age.
I did this for math when I was in 10th grade. The tutor lived along my bus route. I would go there 2x a week. My mom paid around $50 for 2 hours a week.
My neighbor paid someone to teach her kids English and paid $25 per hour.
She worked with the school teacher to set the curriculum. My neighbor and the teacher were happy, but when I was listening in they were doing flashcards from the teacher store. Anyone can do flashcards.
Word of mouth.
Ask your daughter's school if they know anyone.
Rates will vary. Per hour.
My daughter has a Tutor... with a teaching background, certified teacher and Master's Degree... I found her at a bookstore tutoring another child. I observed her, then approached her. She is good. My Daughter loves her and learns a lot.
She charges $35 an hour. She is not about over charging, because she feels kids who need a Tutor, should be able to... not it being a financial struggle for the parents.
I am lucky, to have found her.
