My daughter just turned 11 months old today and we have slowly been introducing table foods. She used to love her baby food but now that solids are introduced she is much pickier and slower at eating, almost as if she isn't interested. I would like her to eat as much organic food as possible. Breakfast and lunch have been going the best, dinner is another issue. The only thing she is eating for breakfast is oatmeal with fruit. Lunch has been contents of a sandwich: bread, lunch meat, and cheese...she does love yogurt and applesauce. We have tried some organic mac and cheese, raviolis, etc but she doesn't seem to like them...

Depending on how you and your family eat, she may be bored. My kids were both eating what we were (with some obvious exceptions) by 11 months, just cut up super-small. My first son got VERY mad at having to eat "baby" foods by about 9 months and wanted what we had; my second doesn't like bland "baby" foods--Cheerios, bananas, etc.--he wanted the spicy, flavorful food his parents and brother were eating. When we started giving it to him, he ate much better!

Hi J.,
Such a fun time in mommy and baby's life! I was totally confused about what I should feed our son so I bought the book "123 Cook for Me" by Karin Knight and Jeannie Lumley. They talk about the nutrition they need at what ages and then take you thru appropriate organic meals and snacks from 6 months thru age 2 when they eat what we eat. Over 300 recipes! We also modify some of them so that my husband will like them. It turned out that I got to try some new foods too! It was a lot of fun. Most recipes are quick and easy. Some take some prep time but we all have our favorites and I will be using it with every child I have.

We eat organically as much as possible. I have the book First Foods by Annabel Karmel and I just use organic ingredients when following the recipes. The nice thing about her recipes are that they taste and look good to the rest of the family too.

Hi J.,

Just a suggestion: Get the book Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron (over 500 pages). It is packed with recipes and ideas not only for baby food but also toddler/preschooler food like homemade crackers and super healthy porridge, etc. I could go on and on. All of it is super healthy. My opinion with this age is to continue to introduce things. If your daughter doesn't like something this week, she might next week. She is still developing her palate. Don't give up, and don't make it a power struggle. Just set it aside and try again in a little while. Some of the experience with food for her is just getting used to new textures. You'll be surprised when suddenly her plate is empty and she'll be asking for more.
