I am looking for a good OBGYN preferably in the Longmont, Boulder, Loveland area, but I am willing to travel if they are highly recommended. I need someone that is very personable, friendly, compassionate, and understanding. I would also like there to be very few doctors in the practice, so I am able to get to know them well.

I have a one year old son and had a horrible experience with his delivery. A doctor in the practice that I barely new delivered him. She was extremely unenthusiastic and unresponsive to my needs. She basically stood in between my legs with her arms crossed and said push. My labor was drug free without any complications as was the pregnancy. I need someone I can trust to deliver our next child. Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for the feedback and references. I am contacting a few of the midwives/doctors and will definitely be using one here soon.

My midwife is amazing! However, she is in Greeley. Her name is Marie Foose and she works at Center for Women's Health. If you work with the midwives there, you also see Krista O'Leary. That way, you know both of them very well. I went to get checked by Marie around 8:30am and she decided now was the time! She sent me back to the hospital and was there herself within an hour or so and stayed with me until everything was over (I had to have a C section) around 10pm. She and Krista visited me a couple of times through out my stay, just to sit and chat. I really enjoyed my experience with them. My husband even loves Marie. I truly recommend this practice. There are two doctors there as well. Let me know if you are interested and would like the number. good luck! :)

Personally I went with a homebirth midwife. Her name is Carrie Blake and she is super cool. I know its unconventional but way worth it, if you want her phone number, let me know and i will message it to you. Also I know a regular midwife in McKee Medical center. Her name is Linda Davidson, also way cool. Good luck!

Well L.,

Since you're wanting someone different anyways, I would stay away from OB's and find a midwife--in fact, you should try homebirth; with the little amount of complications in your last birth, you're a good candidate.

I've had both of my children at home with a Colorado Registered Midwife and have been to friend's birth at the hospital. Hands down, my experiences were incomparably better at home. Midwives provide an average of 60 hours of selfless, sensitive and intelligent care--prenatal care, birth and postpartem care; OB's provide an average of 12 hours total. And quite frankly they literally do nothing to help women give birth--and I really mean nothing. They show up 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there and in the end if everything is a mess, "they come to the rescue." Unfortunately for those mothers, most of the "messes" could have been prevented in first place with good prenatal care and attentiveness throughout the ENTIRE birth, not just once-in-a-while.

If you don't believe me, check out these sources:
"The Business of Being Born"--a documentary film about birth in the US
Research the World Health Organizations' statistics on birth in the U.S. (We're in 30th place for birth care of Industrial nations like ourselves) --not a good stat

You can look up homebirth midwives in your area and interview them.
Best of luck,
j

L.,
I live in Greeley, I know it that it is far but I loved my doctor. He delivered both of my children, son was induced 14 days late with an epidural. My daughter was breach and doing the splits, he did the c-section. I would never have another child if I didn't think he would be the one in the room with me. Dr. David Ward at the family Phasicians (?sp). Direct line to the offices ###-###-####. Good luck I know that it is a hard decision.

N., working mother of two son 21/2 yo and a 15mo daughter, life is crazy but my husband and I love every minute of it.
