In Your State, Is It Required to Get the 2Cd MMR Booster to Attend School?

We live in NJ, they do require 2nd MMR shot or titers to prove immnity.

Both my girls did not receive their 2nd MMR shot, I had their titers done before they started Kindergarten and they both had immunity. Right before 2nd grade I had the titers tested again, still immune. Doctor said she can't say if they will or will not ever need a second shot. Something I will have to follow up on every few years. I would rather do that then give my daughter a shot for something they already have immunity to. If their immunity every becomes low, I would absolutely give them the second booster. But not until that time.

One of the reasons is because when I was 10 yrs old I got the chicken pox, I had such a mild case. 5 dots on my tummy, and I was out riding my bike because I felt fine. After I had my first child they asked me if I ever had, I told them how mild it was, he said I might not have immunity to it and might need to get a shot. I had my titers tested, and I was immune. These doctors like to just follow the recommended list and not test for titers because some people will not follow up every fews years.

In NY You only need 1 dose of each mmr and only one more dose of just measles.. that's what we did for my 2 and what we will do for my 3 month old.... they just combine shots to make it easier, faster ect. we spilt ours up.

Just FYI the titers cast more than the shot. And if your child hasn't had measles than I would go ahead and get the shot. I'm applying to nursing school and they require 2 mmr's so I only had one in the late 70's so I just had to go back this week to get a 2nd one.

I'm not criticizing, I am just curious as to why you don't want your child to get the shot? Wouldn't it be easier to just get it?

Vaccines are not required to attend school in my state though most people aren't aware of that. Are you certain that vaccines are indeed required in NJ, in your county and at your school?

No vaccs are required for kids to attend school in my state either. The schools don't like you to know it so they'll give a bit of a run around. I just have to fill out some paperwork saying that yes, I understand the risks of not giving them vaccs and I have to check a reason such as health, religious or personal but I don't have to "explain" if that makes any sense. Look into your states laws; you may not have to be worrying about this.
