Incontinence and Genecare TVT Procedure?

After 2 kids my bladder has not been the same. I have "overflow," "stress" and "urge" incontinence. I'm leaky and doing Kegels is not helping. Has anyone heard of a treatment called Gynecare TVT or had the procedure done. It sounds like the doctor applies "a ribbon-like strip" that helps support the urethra. I'm not finding a whole lot of info online about this and I would really like to hear people's experiences. Thanks! (and now I have to run to the bathroom!)

What can I do next?

I didn't have the procedure that you mentioned, but I have had a vaginal sling put in to help with the incontinence and it has been the best. I have no leakage when I run, sneeze, cough or anything. I have my life back and I would recommend it. Hardly any down time and it's great. Hope this helps.

Talk to Dr. Davis at U of Colorado Hospital, (Urology/Gyn) she is great and can fix it. I just had it done cause I was tired of wearing pads everyday. I have dealt with this for years! Birthing Kids are really hard on the body.

Hi M.,
I am a physical therapist so I know a little about what can be done for you instead of surgery. Although this field is not my specialty, a physical therapist can become specialized in this field. There is much much more that can be done before deciding on a surgical proceedure. PT will expand on Kegel exercises using very specific techniques, provided you find someone a specialist. I had an aquantance back in Louisiana who took this on as her specialty when she had bladder trouble after having children. It was amazing how busy she was with women who had similar complaints/concerns. I suggest you contact the state's Physical Therapy Board. They would be able to tell you how to begin looking for the right person. PT may or may not work, depending on your specific case, but it's worth a shot! Good luck.

M., I had a bladder sling (called monarch) put in last year and it has made all the difference in the world! I had a great Urologist (a female Dr...bummer you're not in UT) who made me feel great and relaxed about the whole thing. I had so many issues after my 1st was born and dealt with it for years (I now have 3 kids). Happy to answer any questions.

I don't know much about this procedure, but I think it might be worth looking into what alternative options are out there. I do know that acupuncture can really help with urinary incontinence by treating the root problem of what is out of balance in the body that causes dribbling, it will also benefit the overall health of the body.

Hi M.,
I have a cousin that had this procedure, after the second time it worked for her.

My sister had it done and it didn't work for her.

A friend of my mom's had it done later in life and it didn't work for her either.

Good luck

I don't have any info about the procedure you mentioned, but another thing you may want to try is going to physical therapy. After my second I swear I couldn't even find my Kegel muscles to try to practice them-- they were so thrashed. My midwife referred me to a physical therapist who had various exercises to help tighten the muscles that support the pelvic 'hammock' instead of the 'hammock' itself and it did help noticeably for me. And, now I have the knowledge to get back in shape myself after our next child too.

I was having a very difficult time with my bladder hurting and having to go to the bathroom often, after my 4th child. My mom does foot zoning and she did it on my feet several times and I now have no problems at all with my bladder. It helps get the toxins out and helps your body to heal. I would highly recommend it. She is certified and does it for 1 hr. for $40- a great deal. Please email me and I'll be happy to hook you up with her if you would like. I much prefer the natural healing to the medical proceedures.
