Inexpensive/Free Park for Birthday Party for a 5 Yr Old Boy in Plano/Carrollton?

My little one is turning 5 in a little over a week. I'd like to give him a small party at a park in the Carrollton, Plano area. We live in Frisco, but a lot of our friends from church who we'd be inviting live in the carrollton/plano area, so I am not sure about the parks in and around there. Our rental home is way too small as its a duplex, so we don't feel comfortable hosting anything there. I've looked up the rental fees for a non-resident in Carrollton and plano for several parks (like Arbor Hills) and the price is astronomical to me. The whole point of a having a small park b-day party is to have the entertainment built in, to enjoy the outdoors and to keep the cost as low asd possible outside of food & take home treat bags.

Does anyone have any suggestions for great parks in that area that are either low cost to rent the pavillion with picnic tables (enough for 7 couples & their kiddos) or somewhere that doesn't require a reservation of the pavillion & has less of a chance being crowded on the day of the party (Sat, May 12th)???

P.S. I know, I know, I'm late getting this together, but my grandmother died two weeks ago & I just couldn't function very well until now, so the invites are going out late.

Thanks so much for all of you ladies help & God Bless! ;-)

Thanks so much ladies for the great advice! We ended up having it at oak hills park & we had a blast! Everything worked out & my son even said it was the best birthday party EVER! But since he just turned 5, I think we can exceed his expectations next year! Lol! Thanks again everyone & God Bless!;-)

Most of the parks in Carrollton do not require a reservation or a fee. You can find a list with pictures, descriptions, and addresses here: http://www.cityofcarrollton.com/index.aspx?page=380

If it doesn't say that it may be reserved, then you don't need to. Its just first come first serve. (I've called and asked about it before.) Just don't pick Cedar Elm park, because I plan to host MY son's party there on the 12th! :)

Most Carrollton parks are not that crowded on the weekends. I know many (not all) of these parks well, so if have a question about a particular one, let me know and I may be able to answer. Good luck!

Oak Creek Park (http://www.cityofcarrollton.com/index.aspx?page=380#40a)
It is located south of Hebron off Marsh Lane ~ next to the Oak Creek Tennis Center. Two play areas ~ one for the really little kids and one for the olders. Also has a basketball court, walking trail and lots of open space for the kiddos to run and play. Nice covered pavillion with tables inside and out.

Good luck and have fun!

You may try local churches too, I know my church (in McKinney) rents out our playground and it is inexpensive, closed in and private! I bet you could find something like that in Carrolton and you know the money would be going to a good cause.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope your daughter has a great party!

Check out the W. J. Thomas Splash park on the city of Carroltons web site. You cant officially rent a space right now cause it is new and they have not put bathrooms in yet (so its free) but it is a blast and there are lots of tables available. There is a splash park (obviously) and a big play structure right there next to it.

The BEST place in the area is Sandy Lake Park off Sandy Lake Road in Carrollton is the absolute best place for this type of thing. The entrance fee is like $3/car and the pavillion rentals are very reasonable. Plus, I believe you get it for the whole day.

We did my daughters bday there for her 3rd birthday and it has been, hands down, the most enjoyable party we've ever done (and we've tried them all-from high dollar to no dollar).

If you aren't familiar with them, they have a few small to medium sized rides, a train, paddle boats, putt-putt, arcade, swimming pool and LOTS of pavillions with BBQ grills you can reserve. The park is huge and it is so spread out you feel like you are in your own little private place (almost).

I highly recommend looking into this place. Have fun!
