I was hoping that you all had some suggestions of an expensive places to vacation with three families. We were planning on getting a place in Mexico for the week, but with everything that is going on there this would not be safe. Our husbands will not be going so it would need to be a place where the ladies could get around easily. That leaves out camping which would be too cold anyway. We all have kids that are 6,4, and 2. All the kids are very happy just spending the day on the beach. Any suggestions would be helpful. We are looking to go for October break and thinking about spending about $1000 a family for a week. Any suggestions?

One of our favorite cheap places to go is Campland on the Bay in San Diego. It is around $67 or so, a night. I know you said no camping - but you can rent a pop up trailer up there and they will have it all set up for you when you arrive. Each site is equipped with water, electricity, free internet and cable. The bathroom and showers are close and clean. They run activities for families throughout the day and have a private Bay (straight across from Sea World-you can watch the fireworks each night). We take the kids bikes and they to just cruise around. There is an awesome playground. It is only about 5 min from Sea World and the beach. If you cant tell, we love this place. It is the best vacation with kids because they can just run and play without much entertaining. My kids are ages 7,5,3,1.

Check out vrbo.com. I few years ago my family rented a two bedroom condo on the beach with equal distance to sea world and disneyland. We rented with another family and it ended up be $75/night per family. You can find some great deals on that website and the beauty of these places is that they are somebody's part time home. They are stocked with pots and pans, spices and oils and everything you will need to cook so you don't have to spend too much eating out. I have rented through this website several times and it has worked out fabulous. Hope you have a fun vacation whatever you end up doing. Let us know how it turns out. :)

If you want to go to rocky point, you should go. We are going in October, and have many friends who have been since the whole "unsafe/swine flu" business came up. It is fine. Get a 3 bedroom condo and have a blast, I would even say stay on the resort but you will be bored out of your mind there for a whole week. The town is fine, and dead. You can still hit san diego, the rates will be off peak but the water won't be warm enough.

We rented a condo on Mission Beach in San Diego for a week and had a blast. We also had three families and we each ended up paying $1000 for the condo and tickets to Sea World and Disneyland. We rented a two story condo, so the family with the most children stayed on the top floor with their four kids and the rest of each had our own rooms that were similar in size to a hotel room. The great thing was that it was right on the beach, we could walk to restaurants and we were close to all of the attractions and entertainment. I definitely would look into some condos on the beach, as it was a vacation to remember!
