Infant and Bob Stroller

I have a Bob stroller with the infant car seat adapter. Does anyone know at what age I can start jogging with my baby.

The Bob website says 8 weeks to ride in one and 8 mo. to jog with one. And then it says, "With the addition of the Infant Car Seat Adapter, newborns can safely ride in the stroller" It wasn't very clear, would it be safe to jog or not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I have the same stroller for jogging and I was able to go out with my son at 3 months old. He was fine and happy to be outside.

Hi A.,

I got my newborn son in our BoB duallie as a newborn with the car seat adapter. I put rolled up receiving blankets on either side of his head for extra stability. He was fine. I ran on some hills but always had my eye on his head to ensure he was stable and not bouncing around at the neck. Once he was about 8 months or so, I put him in the seat w/o the adapter because I was doing hills. At that point I felt comfortable that he had adequate neck control.

The big concern is neck stability, so the variables are your terrain, your baby's head/neck strength, and your intuitive sense of readiness.

I hope this helps.

I just asked my son's doctor this question a few weeks ago. My son who was 4 mos. old at the time has really good control of his neck and head so I was wondering if he was cleared to go in the jogging stroller. Most things I've read say to wait 6 mos. The pediatrician said for us to wait until 5 mos. You may want to ask at your next doctor appt or call in, since your doctor would be familiar with how ready your baby is to go for a jog. Have fun!

As soon as I felt comfortable with my daughter's head control and that she was a little more "solid", which was after the magical 8 weeks, I put my daughter in the stroller with the car seat adapter. We have not had any problems because she fits securely in her car seat.

Hi A.,

I would not recommend jogging with the infant seat attached unless you're staying on a paved, flat sidewalk. And make sure you have the safety strap that goes across the top of the infant seat strapped and pulled very snug.

At 8 weeks your child can safely ride in the BOB itself. I recommend getting an extra infant head support (by Nojo or Boppy) and using it in the BOB to give your child extra head support. The BOB's are great too because you can recline the seat so that your child is completely comfortable and their head is very well supported.

As far as jogging with them in the stroller it depends on a few things. The main reason company's say 6-8 months is because of the bouncy impact the rider can have while in the jogger.

Things to consider are how much head control your child has. Always talk to your preditrician first to get an assessment on them on how your child is progressing.

Two, it depends on the terrain you'll be jogging on. If it's paved and level there's less bouncing/impact for the rider.

Lastly, how fast will you be jogging/running? Just like when you are riding in a car, bumps or dips in the roadway (or in the case of jogging/running the trail, path or sidewalk) always feel more dramatic when you're traveling faster than if you were going slow.

Six months is a good window at which most children can safely ride in the jogger while a parent is running. With good head and trunk control (again check with your pediatrician) you may be able to start a little earlier.

Oh and one more thing... BOB's customer service department is great. So if you're every unsure and need clarification on their recommendations and safety guidelines just call or email them.

Hi! I started jogging w/ my Bob much earlier than the advised month (it used to be 5 months). My son was/is extremely strong and had great control of his head and neck. I also stayed on flat pavement...it is a smooth ride just like the stroller or car....enjoy!

Actually, with the adapter for the carseat you can jog in it before six months--so long as the carseat is secure and you can come to a stop easily if there are any obstacles.

As for jogging without the adapter, 6 mos is a good window, unless you have one of those babies with good head/trunk control early.

I used the infant seat adapter in my BOB at 8 weeks. The 8 week mark was more for me as that was when I could start exercising again after my c-section. The adapter worked great and I made sure I used the red straps which secured the car seat in the stroller.

We put him in the BOB when he turned 6 months old which also happen to be the time when he outgrew his infant car seat.
