Infant Car Seat - Deciding Between Peg Perego Primo Viaggio or Chicco Keyfit 30 - Linden,MI

We bought the Peg. I talked with the salesperson at Buy Buy Baby, and she said the Peg had more points of attachment to the base and was therefore safer in a crash. But other than that, I liked it except for it being somewhat heavy. Beyond the newborn stage, I really couldn't carry it around much, so we just let it in the car and got her in and out. It doesn't fit on the shopping carts, if that is a concern. But it's probably not very safe anyway, so that didn't bother me.

I don't have any experience with the Peg Perego, it wasn't even on the list that I looked into when I got our first carseats 2 years ago. So, I don't know the differences, prices, etc. However, I LOVE the Chicco Keyfit 30 that we ended up purchasing. I believe it was ranked very high in safety & other things, and I haven't found anything about it that I dislike. The only thing is, being a first time Mom, I didn't realize the 30 lb. max would depend on the size of the baby too. Meaning, my daughter just turned 2, is 25 lbs., and she outgrew it almost a year ago. Could have probably kept her in there a little longer than we did, but she would have never made it to 30 lbs. So I'm guessing it means if you have a chunky little baby who is high on the weight scale, but not 'big' for their size. Good luck!

For my son I had the Chicco Keyfit 30 while my SIL had the Perego Primo Viaggio for her twin boys. I and most people who helped out preferred our carseat because its easy to figure out- you don't have to read a book of instructions to get the kid strapped in. Helpers to my SIL often fumbled with the shoulder strap buckle pieces on hers because they have to go together in a certain order- versus ours which was intuitive. On the otherside, they are both tops for safety, so I think style preference and intuitive understanding are the keys to your decision.

I had the 22lb limit chicco key fit for my son and then got the KeyFit 30 for my daughter. So LOVE it! I gave my first one to my niece for her baby girl and just had to have another chicco for my new baby. We love that it is plush and comfy, easy to use, and easy to disassemble and clean. We frequently make a 13-16 hour drive to visit family and my kids are very comfortable in their Britax convertible car seat and Chicco KeyFit 30, much more so than when we were using other major brands.

We bought the Chicco Keyfit 30 and loved it. For our daughter she was 14 months before we moved her to a convertible seat. It has the higher weight and height limit than most.

My only "complaint" is that it doesn't fit well in the top of shopping carts. Not a deal breaker for me though.

I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant seat and honestly I thought I would like it more than I do. First I'll say, It seems very well built, and more padded than Graco. However, its so heavy that I can't see anyone carrying a 30 lb kid in it (unless you plan to leave it in the car and take the baby out each time). MY almost 7 month old daughter is 19 lbs and I can barely lift her in it. Another thing I don't like is when I put it into the base it sounds like it clicks in but I pull on it to make sure its secure and one of the points isn't latched and lifts back up.. Never had that problem with the Graco one I used for my 1st and 2nd daughter. If you plan on moving the baby into the Convertible seat when she turns 1 anyway, don't waste the money on the ones that go up to 30+ lbs...You won't need it :)

my opinion is that you dont buy an infant car seat, because you are going to have to upgrade once the child is 20 pds. get instead a convertable car seat that can be used as an infant seat and a rear facing seat. you will be saving yourself money.

I have a Chicco KetyFit 30 and am using it on baby #2 (it's still well before the expiration date). I have loved it since I first got it. It's easy to strap the baby in to the seat, easy to install the base in the car, easy to put the carseat in the base and also easy to use the seat without the base when traveling. I had the same problem as MM with the weight issue. My first is nearly 3 and still not 30 pounds but became too tall for the seat at 18 months but this is not a negative to me. I'm glad she was able to use it longer (and it looks like my second will be in it awhile too!)
