The jars say 15 sec at 50%. You can reheat the jars, but throw them away if their not finished within 2-3 days.
I have a 6 month old and we started with rice cereal for a while and doing well. I want to add a veg..I want to heat the jar up, stage 1, but she wont eat all that. Can I refridgerate and re heat, or what so people do??? I heat her fromula, and cereal, she has never had anything cold. So I assumed to heat this as well. Thanks

Baby food is usually room temp. there is no need to heat it. Once heated, as with all veggies and food, they lose nutritional value. You can refrigerate it for about 2 days, but not after heating. After heating, it should be used within 24 hours. As for your desire to heat it, I think we as adults think it should be heated because that is the way we eat, but it is not necessary. If you must heat, scoop out what you won't heat and refrigerate. Heat as needed so not to spoil the rest. Heat in jar and place the rest in a plastic container. If you really want to get daring, add a teaspoon to her formula/cereal bottle, which is already warm and shake it up. Just remember, there is no need to heat jar food. My kids actually liked it at room temp better than hot.Good Luck.
Alison,
I've heard over the years, and it seems to be pretty consistent, though I haven't heard anything since last March (2007) that a container stays open only 1 day (less than 36 hours) and heat it only once (ie: food in bowl, heat food only, not jar) and once opened, keep cold. If it is the last part of the jar, I'm sure it won't hurt to use the jar instead of a bowl. The wrapper is on the outside, after all.
TTBOMK - there are no preservatives in these jars, and while you and I would do okay on 2-3 days being open, babies aren't that strong yet.
Would love to hear more on this, especially if anyone has anything different!
Hi Alison,
I never heated the food up if it was room temperature and I never heated the fruits even if refrigerated. Also, I never fed my kids from the jar. I would spoon out what I was going to feed them into a bowl and this way the jar is kept germ-free. You can certainly re-heat the refrigerated food but it isn't necessary. I actually served my kids cold cereal too as they were teething at this age and loved it!

When I first introduced vegetables, I would add a spoonful or two from the jar that was stored at room temp.
Remember babies prefer food, formula, etc at room temp or slightly warmed, NOT hot.
Once the jar is opened it should be stored in the refrigerator, but no more than two days (36 hours is a good rule). If your using food that has been stored in the refrigerator and want to heat it up first, you can spoon some into a plastic container and pop it in the microwave for a few seconds. Be sure to stir it really good after taking it out of the microwave to get rid of any hot spots.
Any baby food that has been heated and not eaten should be thrown out - do not put it back in the refrigerator for future use.

There's no reason to heat it up, it's already at room temp. Plus with the fruits and vege's, they lose some of their nutrition when heated to much so I wouldn't even bother at all.
Alison
Yes you can reheat the food. or room temp is fine. the jars are good 2 days after opening in the fridge.
