Infant Teething - Pittsburgh,PA

She'll be 15 weeks in two days. She has been trying to put everything in her mouth for a few days now. She chomps down on teething rings and pacifiers and her fist and anything she can stick in there - and she makes these really cute noises. She's her normal adorable self and quite suddenly gets fussy and cries for a little bit until she can chomp on something. How long does this process take for the tooth to finally appear? Any suggestions about this process? Do the gums take a while to "prepare" and then only a few days when the tooth is ready ... ? She seems to be adjusting to this new thing pretty well. She was pretty upset at first and spitting up but each day she gets closer to her "normal" self again. Do the lower ones come in first? Any advice about this process will help ... thanks :)

What can I do next?

ahhh... the teething days! My son would chew on everything. He had all his teeth by 1 year old. The first 2 I remember he screamed this painful scream as poof, they were there. The rest just kinda appeared. The back ones were the toughest (for both of us I think) cause he would stick his hands so far in his mouth he would gag himself!
We are going through it again now with the 2-year old molers... only difference is the gagging causes real barf instead of that tolerable baby barf! Good luck.

when the tooth is about to come in it will look like the gum has a blister on it then the tooth will appear. the bottom ones do come in first followed by the upper two. when she is fussy give her some baby tylenol. it is normal for them to chew on everything.if she is still in a bad mood after the tylenol then give her some teething tablets or drops. disney makes homeopathic teething drops and hylands makes the teething tablets. pathmark with have both the tablets and drops. i have seen the teething drops in target. walmart sells the teething tablets. i like the tablets and turned one of my coworkers on to it for her son who is seven months old. i tried baby ambesol on my son and he made a face when i put it on his gums. he did not seem to like it. the first few teeth are tough but it gets better after that. she may run a low grade fever and or have diarreha which is also normal with getting teeth. do not worry everything will be fine. if all else fails there is always a nice warm bath which soothes most children when they are fussy. good luck

Try soaking a clean wash cloth in water and fold it up and place it in a sandwhich bag in the freezer. Once it freezes give this to her to munch on. This will sort of freeze her little teeth and gums a bit, soothing them. At the same time it's not somthing that is too hard.

My son has been 'teething' since 4mos, and he's almost 8mos, with no teeth yet. He'll have a patch of 3 or 4 days of pain, crying at night, etc, and he'll only drink from a dropper. Then he'll go 10 or 12 days like nothing every happened, before it starts again. There have been 3 instances where he was inconsolable and the peed told me how much Tylenol to give - 30mins later, he chugged a whole bottle and took a 3hr nap.

Good luck!

I second the notion for the frozen baby washcloths! I used to take about 6-8 clean baby washcloths, wet them, fold them into quarters and put in a ziplock bag in the freezer. Then she can chew away! They really will help.

My son started teething with his first tooth at about 4 months, but it didn't actually break through the skin until he was over 6 months old. It can take a while. We used the frozen baby teething rings and they seemed to help quite a bit. When it got really uncomfortable for him, we would use a little bit of baby orajel - but it was rare that we needed to do that. Congrats on reaching this new milestone with your baby - it is painful process for them, but it will pass! Enjoy all of your little ones changes as they pass too quickly!

My son started acting like he was teething at around 2 mos old but didn't get his first tooth until he was 11 mos old. Once the first one came in the rest followed very quickly...one right after another. I think all babies are different and you'll just have to keep an eye on things.

I thought my son was teething at 3 months and he was 6 months before the teeth actually came through. The normal order of eruption is lower center incisors, and then the upper center incisors, but teeth can come in in any order, at any time. My son is an extremely slow teether and it can take weeks for his to come through-- I hope your sons are faster!
