Do you need to carry extra insurance when you are doing in home day care if you tell the parents up front that you do not have extra insurance at this time. I have home insurance, I just need to know if I have to have extra.... I would like to get it in the furture when my business picks up, but not right now....
You don't "have to", but most licensors frown upon this. Plus, you are just better off having it in general. You can get it through your homeowners or through a seperate agency. It isn't too expensive.
And you will have to provide a written statement declaring that you do not have insurance for families to sign.

As long as you state that you don't have any and the parent signs it, you don't need it.
My friend had a daycare kid break his arm at her daycare (2 boys wrestling....) and the dad (of course, parents not married) said he was going to sue her. Well, she copied the paper with their signatures on it stating that she didn't have insurance and accidents were not her responsibility and that was the end of that. They were completely fine. This happened about 1 1/2 years ago and she still watches the boy.
I did daycare for 5 years with a full load most of the time. (11 to 13 kids.) I never carried daycare insurance. The biggest "accident" I ever had was a girl broke her toe at my house.... She stubbed it on something. Most parents have health insurance and it will cover their kids no matter where they get hurt.

I would definitely get it. If something were to happen, you could get sued and/or be held financially responsible.

I think you need it and it protects you too...call anonymously to your insuance company or another company and just see what they say. If anything where to happen to a child in your care, you could get sued and loose everything! I also am not sure if regular insurance covers daycare type incidents.

I would look into it....just because you tell the parents that you do not have extra insurance, doesn't mean they will not sue if or expect you to pay if an incident happens. Secondly, your home owners insurance may not cover it because they will consider it a business, therefore, not part of the homeowners contract.

I had to get a Daycare Ryder put on my policy when I did Daycare. You can get it in different amounts, depending on your insurance company.
