Hi Moms,

I decided to take to the net and see what type of feedback I got for ideas to decorate a family room. At this point I'm thinking of painting the walls beige and maybe the left wall behind the sectional a different color that would compliment the new wall art (which I quickly nailed up...not sure where the final placement will be exactly). I'm also thinking expresso colored end tables and maybe a coffee table. Note the stuff on the mantle is from the holidays which will be replaced with perhaps different height candle holders. Recommendations with links to store images would be helpful and fun if you'd like to suggest something. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for your input Moms, I really appreciate it! Well, I think I may have found an interior designer that I may like to help me finish off the space. As always thanks for your advice and time!

You need to paint the whole room. It's way too vanilla. Do a dark tan and green on that one wall. Add some green to other areas with plants, pillows, browns, tans, blues. Earthy will be good for this room since it's so big.

Gorgeous wood floors! Rather than expresso colored end tables, can you do something with a glass top to let those floors show through? I'd also try a warm medium grey ("ashley grey", can't remember the brand) behind that wall art. It will also contrast nicely with the sofa. I'd probably try to find some window coverings or small area rug with a color or pattern to go with the art. I like stuff from Pottery Barn. Simple, not too expensive, good lines.

If you are going to bring green into the room, remember to try to bring the color all around the room. Bring the green of the wall into a throw rug, maybe some throw pillows. If the art is green, i wouldnt put it on a green wall. It will all just blend together. If it were me, I would do beige walls. with a green accent in the picture.

It would help to know which way the windows faced North South East or West. But here goes I would paint the walls all the same color, but a color nor a white to beige but green or blue-green. The carpets is dark so not too dark on the tables. Lighten it up with colored accents and plants. And maybe a colorful throw and area rug.
